FG3.7 brilliance.png not found

Postby D-ECHO » Sat Sep 19, 2015 5:10 pm

Hello
In fg 3.7 (according to apt 3.7.0~12100+git) , on a LinuxMint 17.8 notebook with a NVidia 360M graphics card, flightgear says
Code: Select all
Cannot find image file "brilliance.png"

and shows a white square around the sun (I suppose that's because of the missing image file)
This problem appears with or without ALS with all shader settings.
Here is a screenshot:

I suppose you do not have the latest FGDATA (not addon or members)?

Well, I have the newest version from ppa:saiarcot895 (via launchpad), but I found out that if I download the package from viewtopic.php?f=47&t=27216&hilit=sun+brilliance / http://www.adalin.com/ehtw.info/html/images/halo.png and save it to Textures/Sky/brilliance.png, it works fine ;)

No, you don't.

I committed this to fgdata myself, and it is there:

https://sourceforge.net/p/flightgear/fg ... liance.png

so whatever you have, it is not the newest version. There should be no need to install any external packages ever when dealing with FG devel version, so something is borked with your setup.

Well, I have the newest version from ppa:saiarcot895 (via launchpad),

so maybe it takes some time from being uploaded to fgdata and being included (build) for the ppa. (btw, I made a mistake, my fgdata version was 3.7.0~7524 (flightgear-data-base)
###
I am now installing the newest ppa version on my second computer, I'll inform you as soon as It's installed whether the file is included.
[EDIT]
from https://launchpad.net/~saiarcot895/+arc ... 5&start=75:
The flightgear-data package will be updated every 1-2 weeks.

and
flightgear-data 2 weeks ago
Successfully built

you are apparently mixing pre-compiled RCs (relase candidates) with binary packages (PPAs) provided by another contributor without understanding the repercussions: RCs will be regularly built/updated and uploaded (provided for download) by the FlightGear build server, the fgdata package is maintained in a repository, and the PPA you are using isn't automatically updated, so you need to either use a cloned repository or wait for the PPA to be updated. Manually installing missing stuff is generally not recommended, unless you really understand what you doing, which doesn't seem to be the case - otherwise, you would probably be using a repository checkout instead of the PPA (which is also likely to be much more efficient from a downloading/updating standpoint, because it can be incrementally updated)
