Various NZ Related FG Liveries Download Here

Postby SplitDecision » Sat Aug 08, 2015 6:43 am

Its been around three to four weeks since I attempted to contribute to the FG livery database and none of my liveries have been published (I didn't upload the not just livery files A4 one), (does anyone know why?) So I have decided to publish my New Zealand related liveries for various aircraft here in this post. You can download them from the Google Drive links below.

Air NZ ATR72 Livery

Air NZ DC10 Livery

Air NZ B737-300 Livery

DH2 Beaver RNZAF Antarctic Livery
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8YVyz ... sp=sharing

RNZAF A4 Skyhawk livery- For FG A4F (because FG does not have any A4-K or TA-4K models)
(This also includes an AC3D model (which tidies up the model a bit and adds an A4K type refuelling probe), and a .png stores file for the droptanks)

I recommend downloading the updated A4 Model from: http://www.fguk.eu/index.php/hangar/vie ... awk-voodoo before you extract these files...

When you extract them, when prompted click replace files.

and by the way... If anyone's AC3D skills are better than mine, your welcome to edit the A4F AC3D model into full or even just near full A4K AC3D spec and upload the file below. (I don't know how to square off the tail or remove the hump or anything like that.) :)

I also have an RNZAF C130 Hercules livery which I can upload if requested however I think it doesn't look as good as I would have hoped. (I'm a bit of a perfectionist you see) :)

Three weeks ;-) but yeah sorry for the delay. I've just processed your liveries. Unfortunately there were quite some issues with most of them. Please have a close look at the comments in the emails that you should've received by now, try to make those corrections and re-submit the finished work. I would love to add your liveries to the database then!

Hi, I don't understand what you mean by the thumbnail not showing the flying aircraft. What are you meaning? The thumbnail I uploaded is in each case the stated aircraft in the stated livery. Surely the aircraft doesn't have to be "in flight" just to prove that the livery is ligit?

The ATR72 livery which you declined due to a lack of "art" is actually a version of the full livery which you are thinking of and is on one or two Air NZ aircraft which does not have the "art" that you describe. Just take a look at the black Air NZ A320 livery already in the database and you'll see.

May I also add that after previously having to resize and muck around with thumbnails and folders then wait for three weeks just for someone to decline my liveries is frankly ridiculous. Why must I bother complying with these over strick regulations over thumbnails and folder names and whatever else when I could just share a link to these files in a forum (which I have done so). Not to mention the annoying no reply email address which is useless if you want to ask a question to the person who declined the livery.

And if your so strickt on thumbnails then why is there a thumbnail for a B777 already published in the database in a AirNZ livery that is completely different to what's in the .zip???

Hi,

I'll try to answer your questions one by one.

Flying thumbnails
To create a consistent look, this was a rule decided upon in the starting days of the database. In the beginning I received lots of ground based thumbnails where the stuff on the ground was often attracting more attention than the livery itself. It is clearly stated (and even emphasized) on the upload form that the thumbnail has to be of the flying aircraft. Same for the other submission guidelines. Not sure how I could make that any clearer.

Just a tip. One way to crop images to 350*250 is by first cropping the image either horizontally or vertically to just encompass the aircraft. Then resize the image to the width or height (either 350 or 250), while keeping the aspect ratio fixed. You can then crop the remaining direction. This way the image won't be stretched or distorted. This procedure can be done in any image editor, including simple ones like Paint.

ATR72
I researched photos of this particular aircraft (ZK-MCB) and the only black versions I could find had the plant on the aft part of the fuselage (photo). Please feel free to proof me wrong. Normally I only check photos of the particular aircraft corresponding to the given registration, so I can spend my time wisely. Some further googling reveals that you've probably painted ZK-MVC, in which case the livery would've been correct but with the wrong registration. Is that correct?

Over strict regulations
One of the strengths of the database is that we provide users with a single format that allows for easy installation. If all aircraft packages would have their own structure, it would be a complete mess. With respect to file/folder names; FlightGear is used by users on all kinds of operating systems. Not all of them can handle spaces, some of them are case insensitive, while others make a distinction between "anz" and "ANZ". For your own use this may be irrelevant, but liveries in the database are intended to work for everyone.

It's perfectly fine to share your liveries on the forum or in your own hangar if you prefer to do so. The database is just an extra service (provided to you free of charge) and by no means the only way to share your work. Do understand that the database rules have been set up to provide the best experience to the broadest user range, so even if you share your liveries elsewhere, it might be wise to stick to (most of) them.

Wrong thumbnail
If you mean this one; that was a case where the database accidentally picked up the normal 777-200ER ANZ livery. Fixed now, thanks for reporting!

Cheers,
Gijs

Re: Various NZ Related FG Liveries Download Here

I have re submitted my ANZ B747-400, B737-300, DC10-30, and RNZAF DHC2.

I am wondering whether I should bother to re submit my RNZAF Skyhawk livery because due to the structure of files it has it doesn't have a .xml file for the livery (its simply just one standard livery that can be changed by replacing the existing livery files.) As you can see from the first post it also has a AC3D file to remove an annoying grey line around the cockpit which wasn't effected by the livery files and add a A4K refuelling probe. It also has a separate file for stores (drop tanks, bombs etc) which is designed for users who have the updated model from the UK FG page. Would this comply with the rules and regulations of the database or should I just leave it in the forum as I have done and not bother submitting it to the database?

Thanks for all your help, and sorry for the complaint I made earlier. I now understand the importance of complying with the database regulations. :)

Thanks KIWI34, its great to see fellow Kiwis on FlightGear. I am currently working on a full ATR72 livery (with the fern etc). If you want a particular plane painted up in a particular livery I can in most cases do it on request, so don't hesitate to ask. Maybe we could meet up on multiplayer in FG at an airport around NZ of your choice and do some flying sometime. :)

If we gave everybody in the World free software today, but we failed to teach them about the four freedoms, five years from now, would they still have it? Probably not, because if they don’t recognise their freedoms, they’ll let their freedoms fall

Our air force is basically toothless, we are ranked 80th out of 126 countries in the world for military power and our defence force is crumbling more to this day. All because thanks to Helen Clark we have no fighter jets, the government is spending less and less every year on the military, allegedly cutting nearly 150 defence jobs and letting our defence force crumble even more.

yea, i might have to try get into the RAAF if i actually want to fly some real stuff, our country doesn't have the technology. On another note, the RNZAF C-130's turned 50  , I'm not surprised we still use them

Yeah, I plan on getting dual nationality and then go into the RAF.

I saw you on mpserver02 last night flying over Europe. I will be flying multiplayer tonight at around 7 or 7:30 till sometime after 9. I plan to fly from Whenuapai and do a touch and go/landing at Auckland on mpserver02.
