EDDS Stuttgart Airport ATC

Postby 689 » Thu Jul 23, 2015 9:47 am

Providing ATC Service at Stuttgart Airport (EDDS)!
NOTE: I will never control traffic without being on mumble as hkATC.

Stuttgart Airport is famous for its scenery in Flightgear, as well as the massive amounts of traffic it takes with only one runway. This is the perfect airport to practice flying under air traffic control with instruments and visual. Enjoy amazing scenery around Stuttgart, and an easy and fast route to Frankfurt. A great starting point for newcomers that are new to being controlled.

Charts can be downloaded here: http://techmastary.net/fg/edds.html
The charts have been separated into two packages for both runways.

I will usually be available usually at GMT 13:00 to 17:00, and will hop on once I see 1 or more aircrafts in Stuttgart Area. (Or just randomly hop on, my name is hkEDDS)
Mumble is my preference (mumble.allfex.org), if not then MPChat is the fallback. I will not support FGCOM.

I will also be available to record your takeoff and landings at EDDS. This is on-demand currently.
A livestream will soon be available to record my ATC actions and your landings and takeoffs.

Routes:
EKCH->EDDS:
Distance:467nm
(added STAR BADSO 2A)
NEXEN GIMRU MIC WRB MASEK OSBIT TOSTU KRH BADSO LBU
EDDS->EKCH
Distance:438nm
(added SID OKIBA 3B)
LBU OKIBA RIMKI LOHRE MAKEL GESKA MONAK

Happy flying, I hope you fly to Stuttgart Area!

I'm probably now more familiar with EDDS than KSFO now. Varies from semi-populated and frequent, to quiet and calm, a perfect balance. Airport and Scenery itself is in my opinion far better set out than the San Francisco Bay and surrounding areas, involving longer flights and more independent scenery, including wind farms, factories, stadiums and farmland vehicles/sheds, miles and miles of variating greens in contrasted mountain ranges and stunning, beautiful vegetation, and minimal city/building areas from what I have seen, which as I said, is good for something different. Here is a link to the main differences in light and haze in general to all of FlightGear, and the variations that come along, which are region specific.

http://www.flightgear.org/tours/the-mag ... -and-haze/

This is implying that, basically speaking, the European region in general should have a much better, prettier, healthier looking environment.

I hope! Stuttgart serves a completely different timezone and hopefully it can grow to jomo size!

Is someone doing the atc the next days in Stuttgart? Is also a German ATC possible?
I am new at glight gear... so what do I have to have for flying with atc? (Which programs,...?)

flightgear, mumble, and swift if you're doing VATSIM... if you're not doing VATSIM, only flightgear and mumble, really...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

For Vatsim you don't need mumble. Be aware that the Vatsim code of conduct (CoC) requires that you are able to control your aircraft, follow ATC instructions and communicate what you are doing (preferable with voice, but text is possible). German controllers are very active on Vatsim and will cater you in German when asked, also for VFR traffic in IFR airspace.

You can find good youtube videos to configure swift for FlightGear here.
