Thanks a lot :) I got some amazing satellite images for that region and I also love the result. I wished I had that type of material to work with for the whole globe though!

Early morning approach to Avery County Morrison field, North Carolina, (7A8) using the "c172p-detailed-regression-version-to-3.2":

It's a pretty steep approach onto rwy 34 into Avery so, after the ridge, it was done on zero power and full flaps.

FYI, the 172-detailed responds to a radical sideslip/crab by dropping like a well-behaved stone, losing both airspeed and altitude in good control...but mind the stall warning! Very handy for those steep approaches.

Ready for flight...

This slipway is one of the remains of Torslanda Airport, ESGB, which was the main airport for the city of Göteborg, Sweden from 1923 to 1977.
To start on the slipway use --lat=57.70266 --lon=11.78678 --heading=135. The closest airport is ESGP to the north but the slipway is hard to spot from the air.

A nice exercise with the amphibious c172p is start at the slipway, taxi into the water, take off, fly to ESGP and land there, take off again, fly back to the slipway, land on the adjacent water and taxi up onto the slipway again. Getting on and off the slipway is a bit tricky as FG and/or JSBSim is only aware of the top most material layer so once the front gears hit the water they sink, although there actually is the solid slipway surface just beneath the waves. The rough and ready solution is to retract the gears while on the roll down the slipway to slide into the water on the floats' keels and, on returning, slide up on the slipway before extending the gears.

@Warty, I am happy to hear that this branch is being used. I just updated it to match the current 3.6 release (minus the shadows your version can't handle). But it has all the other bells and whistles (including the flashlight effect to previously un-effected interior objects).
There have been massive amounts of changes to it, so please grab the new version and check it out.
I have not verified or tested any of the upgrades, so if you have any trouble with it please let us know on the c172p thread (be sure to let us know your referring to the "regression-version")

i'm glad you posted this! i haven't been able to find it again where we talked about it in the bug tracker... it also doesn't help that i've been sidetracked with other issues outside of FG in these last days :( i've been wanting to try this... surely it is easier than i've been attempting by running up on the shore just where ever i happen to land ;)
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

Great. Just crashed into ONOX and now he's sinking. Hope he's got a lifeboat.

I think it could look even better with both ALS and AW (atmospheric light scattering and advanced weather). It looks like you have ALS on, but I am not so sure about advanced weather.

When you open the weather dialog it may look like AW is enabled, but to actually enable it you have to close the dialog with the OK button. Within a few seconds you will definitively know that it is kicking in by the look of things. :)

I've had a go with this and, yes it can produce some much nicer clouds that the standard "cotton-wool balls". The downsides, from my limited attempts so far, are that it's a bit fiddly go get the effect you are looking for and it is hard to get consistency from one session to the next. Still, I think it's worth persevering with. Here's my first attempt . . .
