ffmpeg
If we gave everybody in the World free software today, but we failed to teach them about the four freedoms, five years from now, would they still have it? Probably not, because if they don’t recognise their freedoms, they’ll let their freedoms fall

If you have a GTX 6** or newer NVidia card then NVidia's ShadowPlay is the way to go. It has no frame rate hit as far as I was able to tell and produces very nice 1080P 30Hz or 60Hz videos with sound including optional microphone capture. I recently used this to make a tutorial video and was very happy with the results. It does not have direct support for OpenGL but you can put in the full screen record mode and then run FG on the screen it is recording.

BB Flashback Express works wonders for me on Windows. On Linux, recordmydesktop should be a good choice.

I have a NVIDEA GeForce 820M. Will it work fine?

Thanks all for the responses above.

I don't know it might not work with a mobile GPU. When you bring up the NVidia Experience app you should be able to tell since if it will work there should be a place to start it and configure it. I know when it first appeared about 9 months ago it needed a desktop GPU but that may have changed but I don't know.

Aside from nVidia having a h.264 encoder on board for all GeForce GTX650Ti Boost (desktop) and newer (so, perhaps 700M series, and definitely 800M series and 700 and 900 series desktop GPUs) and thus being able to record with ShadowPlay (part of their driver software suite AFAIK), there is seriously only one option if you don't wan't to pay money for a screen recorder, OBS (Open Broadcast Software, from memory). It's pretty popular with Twitch.TV Streamers and even some YouTubers. Alternatively, I have used DXTory for a looooong time and it works amazingly as well, though it is not free.

Windows: Open Broadcaster Software or Nvidia Shadowplay if you have a Nvidia GPU (it is surprisingly good)
Linux: ffmpeg (which will come to Windows 10) or SimpleScreenRecorder, which is what I use on Linux

Also see the topic Screen capture workflow tip.

Uses the free software: Sizer (resizing a window to an exact size), CamStudio (screen recording), Audacity (noise removal) and FFmpeg (video conversion and compression).

MSI afterburner, which is a GPU utilization tool, also offers a screen recorder, but i found the configuration much more tricky than if you used ShadowPlay.

I'd avoid ShadowPlay if you wanted to capture raw video, because it enforces compression IIRC.
