I tested out the new main gear steering set up and I'm happy with the way it's working.

Another new thing: added inboard aileron animations and aileron droop associated with the flaps.

I hate to be asking this (since this question is asked all the time in threads), but: where can I find this version?

Same link as before. That link always points to the latest version. I added it in my signature for extra convenience.

Hi John,

Just a very unimportant thing: If i fly and use rudder, my nose-gear turns with it. It may look a bit nicer if it did not. Would it be possible to show it turning only when on the ground?

Kind regards, Vincent

I coulda sworn it already did that. I'll fix it. I'm away from the ol' FG computer again, so it'll be a week or so.

Hi John,

If you look in i.e. 777-200.xml, you can find in the first line:

Code: Select all
<airplane mass="307000" version="YASIM_VERSION_32">

That version attribute means something like: use improvements in the yasim engine. I tried it on the 747 and did not notice anything bad happening yet. Maybe you should have a look into what it actually does and maybe start using it, so your planes can benefit from future improvements in the yasim engine.

Kind regards, Vincent

Hi Vincent,
For now, I'm going to let that ride. The only adverse effect I see for now using the old version is a warning message on start up. I'd like to study up on the newer version and do a lot of test flying with it before I change the FDM, since it is working fine now. But, that is on the TO DO list to bring it up to date if I can do so without completely screwing it up. In the more immediate future, the Canvas NavDisplay will be arriving in the 747-8 before too long.
Cheers,
John

Hi John,

Yet another unimportant nice to have. Over multiplayer the outer main gear does not droop when in the air. This makes the plane look rather stiff on Jomo's films. In this film you can see the 747 from minute 26:

Maybe you already solved this, i do not update aircraft weekly.

Have a nice x-mas, Vincent

Hi Vincent,

I hope Christmas and the start of the new year have been good for you. I finally had a chance to checkout the video and I've made a fix that should allow the gear truck rotation to be seen over MP. I've only tested it to make sure it still works locally, but haven't checked over MP yet.

That was a nice landing you made there in a 15 kt crosswind! Nice flying!

Cheers,
John

Hi John,

Yes my life goes on and on. Quite happily. I wish you a happy new year too.

Do i understand it right that the not yet tested fix is in git?

Btw, how could you tell about the crosswind? Did you watch Jomo's metar or so? Yes it was quite a cross wind. But fun to do, else i have no work at all :-)

Kind regards, Vincent

Hi Vincent,

Yes, the fix is up in git now. I spent an hour fixing little things in the 757 and 747 last night. This turned out to be a little thing. :)

I heard Jomo in the audio tell you about the 15 kt wind from the left when you were on short final, so I was braced for the excitement. I don't manage to find a good crosswind often enough in my FG travels.

Cheers,
John

Hi John,

For good x-wind you need good wind in the first place. I use this map to get an impression where to look for wind.

http://earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/surface/level/orthographic=10.91,48.72,1221

At windy places i check the metar on mpmap to see if i can get anything above 20 kts. For x-wind at many airports the most cross rw can be selected deliberately.

[edit]
Managed to run 2 multiplayer instances just now, and saw the main gear of the 747 droop from the other instance. So i gues it works.

Kind regards, Vincent

Hi again John,

There is a thing that really makes me nervous, that is rain in the cockpit. I saw the 777 got rid of that problem. Maybe you can copy that code somehow, to get an easy fix.

Kind regards, Vincent
