Alrighty, then. Deleted autosave_3_2.xml. Captured the startup command string from the Launcher in 10.9. It won't load FG from Terminal, presumably because there are too many commands (i.e., too many characters). Trimmed off the MP and HUD stuff, and it works. It took awhile before I could run the Water shader's slider all the way up: initially, it was cutting my fps from 24 to 3, but eventually it started working OK. No clue why. Now my frame rates in 10.10 are similar to 10.9.

Does anyone still have the FGX launcher for Mac? Will it work with 3.2 in 10.10? I tried to find it online, but Gral's website no longer exists. All git has is the source code, which is black magic to me.

New question: is the 3.2 on the download page any different than RC2? Nobody ever talks about such things, and I'd rather not spend several hours downloading and then customizing yet another 3.2 version unnecessarily.

I think I read somewhere here that 3.2 is RC2 renamed - but that might have been the Windows version.

I think the Mac release is the same too – nothing's been changed that I'm aware of.

Someguy: on the bug tracker, a user reported he had to compile FGx. I would suggest using FGo!, because it doesn't exactly require compiling.... maybe PIL (Python Imaging Library) does. If you want, I can walk you through the steps it takes to make it work (when I have time).

Thanks for the kind offer, P. But first I need to work out why my frame rate increases gradually from 3 to 24 fps after a spawn, just sitting on the runway, then drops back to 1 and stays there if I reset. If I can't fix this, cobbling together a Launcher substitute would be wasted effort. Also, Terrasync is not giving me some tiles that I'm quite sure are cached.

Sometimes I get better performance than in Mavericks, even with more eye candy enabled, so I wonder if the video driver has been improved. Other times, I just shut FG down in puzzlement and frustration, and go do some chores. :(

Well. No inexplicable problems with frame rate today. I think I've finally gotten my weather and rendering settings to stick, too. Scenery is very slow to load, and the scenery tile just north of KNUQ still refuses to load at all.

There are serious anomalies with the ground level of the terrain: some places I drop through the runway to land several hundred feet below the surface.

While I was making a carrier approach I had a brief touchdown a couple hundred feet above the ocean; it was only for a second, then I continued down to trap on the carrier deck.

I took off normally from KNUQ, but after looping around in a pattern, I landed about 10 feet below the runway. No crash, either.

I don't know whether this is due to Yosemite, starting from the Terminal, or just typical FG weirdness unrelated to my session.

Philosopher: I installed Fgo!. It says it's launching FG, but doesn't. I suspect something's not right with my config. Here's the Terminal error:

Code: Select all
dyld: Library not loaded: libosgText.100.dylib
  Referenced from: /Applications/FlightGear.app/Contents/MacOS/fgfs
  Reason: image not found

Here are my config panes:

Thanks for taking a look!

I think I figured out the ground level issue: it's caused by the "simplify terrain" option in the rendering panel. It was obvious driving the Crash Hauler vehicle. Its altitude never changes regardless of the terrain, but it drives through mountains and above valleys. Too bad, as simplifying the terrain yields a useful frame rate improvement.

Also, the replay controls are different, with no button to resume control in the middle of a replay.

These problems are in OS X 10.10, starting FG 3.2 via the Terminal.

Right, simplify terrain has been given such problems for a lot of people and has therefore been removed for FlightGear 3.4.

That's a feauture that's only supported by YASim aircraft. The crashtender is JSBSim.

Ah. Thanks, Gijs, for the explanation. Do you have any idea how to deal with my FGo! missing library problem? FWIW it's not actually missing, just not being found.

Nope, sorry. Not using FGo! nor Mac myself...

You're running FGo! from Terminal, right? Try adding this in front of the command you use:
Code: Select all
DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH=/Applications/FlightGear.app/Contents/Frameworks/:$DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH

for example, I would use:
Code: Select all
DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH=/Applications/FlightGear.app/Contents/Frameworks/:$DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH ~/Documents/FlightGear/fgo/fgo

(if you look carefully, there's a space between the DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH definition and path to fgo.)

To make this easier, you can set it once in your Terminal (valid while it's still open) like this:
Code: Select all
DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH=/Applications/FlightGear.app/Contents/Frameworks/:$DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH

Or you can add it to a ~/.bashrc file, e.g. with this command:
Code: Select all
echo '
export DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH=/Applications/FlightGear.app/Contents/Frameworks/:$DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH' >> ~/.bashrc

Actually, I was trying to use the FGo! that someone made into an app, not running it from Terminal. He said he got it to work, but didn't detail how. I have the plain version as well. Same behavior either way.

When I paste "DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH=/Applications/FlightGear.app/Contents/Frameworks/:$DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH" into Terminal, I get "DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH: Undefined variable."

You mean the Dropbox one I put up on the bug report? :D

I think the best fix would be adding it to .bashrc like I mentioned above, then it should work anywhere. I'm not sure why it says "undefined variable" – usually it doesn't complain about them.

Thanks for trying to help, but I haven't a clue what that means. Yeah, that might have been your FGo app; I searched for solutions until my eyes crossed. I'm puzzled why it worked for you and not for me. I guess I'll just wait until a new Launcher-thingie shows up.

Alas, I fear we are going to lose a lot of Mac people. There are new features in Yosemite that many will find more compelling than FlightGear. They won't wait to upgrade their OS until a working version of FG comes out, and they will be even less eager than me to muck around in the Terminal.
