Oh, one more thing.

Current target price for the set is 450 $. Not euro.

Thanks

For everyone, who was not following the discussion on devel mailing list thus already knows, we have some news.

We have successfully completed the firmware design phase for Flight Simulation Interface, and confirmed compatibility with FG.
Some testing pictures can be found on bottom of this page: http://www.computer2cockpit.com/?page_id=108
Few more on our Facebook and G+ page.

Howdy, I have created a custom set of glareshield textures that I hope could be useful for your project.

Hi,

Every improvement to senecaII cabin is contribution to this project also. Since our basic setup relies on cabin instruments being displayed on simulation display(s) and operated by our basic navigation panel.
Huge help would be if someone could finish the cabin, regarding the transponder and GPS panel. Since we already included support for it in our device.
We are over our heads with development, so we don't have much time for dealing with FG on our own.

Thank you,

Best regards

Hi guys,

We are just designing panels for twin engine turboprop an turbojet and i can't find some things in b1900 and citation X model. I have FG 2.12.1 version if this is relevant.

On citation X i cant find parking brake control, and that is pretty much it. I wanted to discuss with you which panels(not controls) in this cockpit are essential for flying this model.
I guess engine, electrics, hidraulics, anti ice, lights and display controls and of course the autopilot panel. Do you think there is something more that requires frequent usage during the flight I'm unable to operate a lot of switches and on this model so i cant really figure everything out. Also some are unmarked. Is this model incomplete? is there any chance it will be completed? Is there a citation model with "analogue" cockpit maybe, meaning non glass cockpit?

On b1900 i cant operate most of the switches, not even engine starters.. so same question, is this model incomplete will it be completed maybe one day?

Also are there other models of these aircraft online and freely available somewhere?
I'm looking complete working models from which i can model the hardware.

Any help will be appreciated.

There are very few truly complete aircraft in FlightGear. It is a huge undertaking to do this with any aircraft that has any level of complexity. I just did a quick check of the b1900 and it looked to be like perhaps 30% to 40% of the switched/controls in the cockpit where functional. Implementing individual controls/switches for things where there is built in support for that functionality in FG is not very difficult for someone who has done a few. But when you need to do dozens of the amount of work involved is significant even if all the of functionality needed is directly supported by FG. Some functionality that is aircraft specific or specialized will not have build in support and then this must be implemented by the aircraft developer. Sometime this is fairly easy and other times it can be very complex depending on the specific functionality being implemented.

In case you don't know the quick way to check what is functional is to do a control-c which will highlight the controls that have hot spots or pick animations. Generally anything that lights up is, at least, somewhat functional.

Also it is possible to implement functionality at the property tree level without having to do hot spots or pick animations or for that matter any animations at all. This is generally not very useful for most FG users but for an advanced controller setup it might allow you to stream line the process of adding features for any aircraft you decide to support with your hardware.

Thank you, that was very helpful.
Yes i actually don't need the hot spots and animation but the functionality, and i'm glad it can be added easily because there is no point in us adding these buttons and switches if they will not affect the FG model. Especially if we are talking about engine start procedures. No point in having starter/ignition switches if they will not start the turbine.

I'm focusing on b1900d because it is the only twin engine turboprop i can see modeled in FG and it is greately similar to b200 cockpit.. These are common aircraft in "turboprop class".

What about Citation-X. I cant seem to operate some controls for PFD, and i cant seem to find COM controls there.
As we are trying to design an autopilot panel for this type of aircraft, with reference to existing models of this aircraft found on FS9 FSX FG, X-plane, we are hoping to complete this panel with controls that will allow NAV/COM selection and BARO selection. That would make one combined NAV/AP panel containing everything needed for navigational control of such aircraft(twin engine jet). So that is why i'm asking how the COM is operated in this model. On newer models(mustang) and older models with "analogue" cockpit and radios it is pretty clear, but on this model i can't identify these controls.

Again, any help would be appreciated.

Hi guys, here's a little update on panel design we were talking about the other day.

I tested citation model in FG3.0 and it is almost fully functional. Actualy it is the best citation model i've seen for flight simulation. I will orient the design around it.
About beech 1900d, it has nice cockpit, and all beech cockpits look generaly the same, so there will be a switch panel compatible with this model. I'm hoping that moderator of this aircraft will at least add functionality for these switches to the property tree (if they aren't there already), by the time we will offer this switch panel.

Thanks for help.

Hi guys, we are working on the glass cockpit navigation panel. A special unit adjusted for glass cockpit manipulation.
As we plan to reference it to a citation X model from FG can someone reference me to the modder of this aircraft. Forum account if he is active.
I would like to contact him to review this panel design before publishing it.

Thanks

This is just about the buttons and switches, but not the actual display, right ?

Otherwise, you should be aware of glass cockpit related efforts, especially Canvas - most airliners & jets will sooner or later benefit from being ported to Canvas, e.g. to use Gijs' NavDisplay framework, or at least Philosopher's MapStructure framework for mapping purposes.
Thus, if this is also about the actual display itself, people should be aware of related canvas efforts, especially FGCanvas: http://wiki.flightgear.org/FGCanvas

I am involved in both, the NavDisplay and MapStructure efforts, and my mid-term plan involves supporting a standalone mode for all Canvas-based glass instruments, including the ND, but also other instruments like the PFD, EICAS, CDU or EFB. This may sound like a lot of work, but it's mainlyy a matter of introducing a a few helper classes and ensuring that people actually adopt and use those.

In the long-term, I really want to support distributed FlightGear setups like those at FSWeekend/LinuxTag, where multiple computers may be used to run a single simulator session - including properly synchronized glass instruments like the PFD/ND etc. This would also help improve the multiplayer experience, especially dual-pilot setups etc.

Regarding a pure panel with switches, kobs and buttons, I'd prefer something like that to be aircraft-agnostic, i.e. just consist of property-mapped controls that can be individually assigned, so that this could be reused for other MFDs, not just the ND - but also the PFD or EFB.

Hi Hooray, good to hear from you

Yes, everything is about buttons and switches not about display and software.

I confused you when i said navigation panel. By navigation panel i mean what we bundle into single panel and that is radios, instruments, inter-phone controls and autopilot in the latest revision.
We are trying to FULLY cover 3 different "class" of aircraft with the newest design. Twin piston, Twin TurboProp and TwinJet.
We have divided cockpit into 6 sections and we are trying to make the parts as generic as possible, while retaining the functionality and similarity.
So, Yoke and pedals will be the same for every aircraft. We'll have one TQ type for twin piston/twin turboprop aircraft and one for twin turbojet aircraft.
One switch panel for twin piston and one for twin turboprop/jet aircraft.
Fuel and trim is melted into ThrottleQuadrant's and Switch Panels, in the newest revision.
One navigational panel for all types, but we want to expand this panel or more likely add an additional panel that would allow mouse-free manipulation of glass cockpits. No matter what is so far working in FG models.
Image

We are thinking about Additional panel for hydraulics/apu/ cabin altitude(pressurization) controls. This is where i need some help from citation X modder, due to unfinished model. A POH/AOM that he is using as reference would be nice. Or operation manual for these panels. That way we could design the panel in a way that he plans to implement it into FG

BTW i just checked the 777-200 and it is very nice. Auto-zoom on OH panel is very useful. Is FMS fully(mostly) functional on this model?

Obviously, I know nothing about your budget and profit margins, but if you want to focus on glass cockpit panels, and if you can afford it, I would really consider making those panels as generic as possible by using "dynamic buttons" with built-in labels, i.e. so called "LCD keys", this is the company that provides the buttons for the real Airbus/Boeing cockpits: http://www.esterline.com/controlsystems ... tches.aspx

Using such buttons, knobs and switches would allow FlightGear itself to dynamically re-label and re-configure your buttons, so that different aircraft may use different panels and alignments of buttons

Hi,

We are trying to put first low budget flight simulation product line on market, and this is great but for high end products.
And we are trying to avoid output USB devices as these are dependent upon drivers, and if not drivers than plugins for software. Long story short, you get devices that work with some simulations and not other, and bunch of unsatisfied users..

Thanks for information anyway. It is good to know.

Hi guys, i have one question, i've read about aircraft and cockpit designing and about how it is recommended to use finished instruments, buttons, etc. from other aircraft.
So what do you think, why did designer of citationX put another kind of FMS interface in his cockpit? Meaning different from the one already made for 777 and 747.
