How to integrate google earth with the flight gear?

Postby dhar.eterno.mahee » Wed Mar 19, 2014 8:27 pm

I want to know whether there is a way to integrate the google maps with flight gear and display the information present on the navigation display page in aircraft on the google map.Is there any way to track the motion of the aircraft over the google maps?

Hooray linked to a way to integrate a map with the instruments on the aircraft.

If you don't mind using an external browser, connect to multiplayer (F10 to show the menu, multiplayer->settings, choose a callsign and connect to a server close to your physical location) Then, visit: http://mpmap02.flightgear.org/

Also, the last development version includes a web server with a very nice map based on OpenStreetMaps.

correct, but as Torsten pointed out a few days ago, he wants to focus on the browser side of things and is not interested in generalizing the concept to also support canvas-based scenarios, so if all the OP wants to do is rendering a map to an instrument, canvas is his best bet currently. If a browser-based solution is also acceptable, I do agree that Torsten's recent httpd/mongoose work should be nice to play with, but both approaches (mongoose vs. canvas) will either require latest binaries from the build server or building the whole thing from source.

That being said, the original question was about "integration" and rendering a map to an instrument - however, google earth also supports various I/O options, and can be linked to FG that way - without exchanging any imagery however....
