A funny thing happened on the way to the airport

Postby drdavid » Wed Feb 05, 2014 7:06 am

Thought I would try out the new Quito, Ecuador airport--SEQM, (which has in real-life replaced SEQU). I have family who lives in Quito. On the Route Manager SEQU now shows up with an X before it, properly designating it as a decommissioned airport. I filed my flightplan and took off from KSAN in the DC-10-30ER. Several hours later as I began my approach I became aware that I had beaten the FG New Runway Construction Crew to the site. Nice flight, though. Great weather today. That, or else someone forgot to switch on the runway lights. :?

Cheers!

What do you mean by that, is there a problem at this specific airport? Screenshot?

Ah, by that, I mean the airport has not yet been installed. It's just an open field outside of Quito where it is supposed to be. :)

Both SEQU and SEQM seem perfectly ok using the last scenery:

I've landed at SEQU a number of times, so I know the approach and the airport. I wonder if I had a terrasync failure? My system has the most recent Scenery Disks loaded on it. Not sure now what happened. Any ideas?

I'll get back to later when I've had a chance to make sure all airports are installed.

Hi--

Here's the update. I am running RC3.0. Installed the scenery disks (v.2.12, 22158). Clicked on the "Refresh" button. SEQM was still not listed in the Installed Airports option, but was listed in the All Airports option so clicked on that. I noted that during the "Run" sequence, no scenery was downloaded. Result: Still no airport. Screenshot from Tower view with the aircraft to the distant right:

The scenery disks are probably using the old scenery, and this means many years old. If you want new airports, either activate terrasync or wait for an update of the disks. Actually, new scenery takes many, many gigabytes (about 100GB, more than 20 DVDs) and probably can't be distributed using DVDs any more.

Hi-- I have terrasync activated. Using RC3.0, I've noted with other airports (a limited number at this point), during the Run sequence, scenery is dowladed and installed, but not for SEQM.

The snapshots of the other post were taken using terrasync, so it is something local to your machine. Maybe you are using for the terrasync directory the same directory where you installed the scenery?

If you are using terrasync, there is no reason to install the scenery from the disks.

Do you think uninstalling the scenery disk files using the Install/Uninstall Tool might work?

I think you may not have allowed enough time for terrasync to load the other airport. It took awhile, but I eventually got both of them in Scenery 2.0. I had to spawn at SEQU, then hop to SEQM in-sim from the Location menu. That's probably a symptom of an outdated apt.dat.gz file.

Thanks, I'll try that and hopefully it will pull the files.

I downloaded RC 3.4. I also created a "clean" terrasync file (no preloaded scenery files). By spawning SEQU (though FG crashed a couple of times before I got a successful loading), I am now able to access SEQM. Thank you for your assistance.

Cheers!
