I'm Looking to Join a VA

Postby specksavers » Tue Aug 27, 2013 12:04 pm

Hi,
Are there any VA's out there which operate with the C172P? Let me know about your VA below if so and Ill think about joining.
Ive been on Flightgear for about 3 years now. I was Vice-President of Air Euro, CEO of Africa Tours, President of FG Search and Rescue and I'm currently Head of the Defence operations for the European Air Force.

I have around 40 hours on the DR400, 20 on the R44, 10 on the EC-135, 10 on the Mil Mi and 45 on the C172P.

Im looking for an airline that isn't big (like Merloin) but small or just starting out. Im keen to help out.

Thanks for reading,
George.

Hi George,
according to me there is no VA which operate with the C172P. We strive for more and more realistic flying (real airlines do not operate with C172P:)).
But I'd like to invite you to Arminair VA. At one time ARA was one of the most active airlines in FG. Arminair VA was founded by SP-WKA (who's known for improving B773). Since September 2011 we still exist ( :D )
More information can be found here: http://arminair.tk
If you'd have any questions, please ask me in a private message or email: w.byczkowski@interia.pl
Recruitment is open so everybody's invited to join us. :)

Kind regards,
Victor (or in Polish Wiktor :) )

Many airlines do actually, for scenic tours and bush flying as well as getting access to remote areas where large jets cannot land.
I will not join the airline for now as I find flying light aircraft and helicopters the most fun (as my hours show).

Thanks.

Actually, the definition of an airline is a public service providing regular air transportation on some fixed routes. I'm not sure if Air Tours would fall into that category.

Bah. Hair splitting...

EDIT: Maybe I should elaborate on that. Easiest way to get a steady cash inflow for smaller operators is probably a combination of regular flights, if there are enough passengers for break even and probably some profit, and chartered but often irregular flights. With the right contacts the chartered flights might become the regular flights. So I guess that smaller operators would seem less regular than larger operators, but there would still be some regularity, provided there are passengers to be flown.

Like I said, many airlines use the C172 for small flights when they start operating. Like I said, I want to join a VA thats just started because they will likely be using small planes like that). Every company starts small and makes their way up. For example, Era Alaska started with only one 2-seater Cessna and one man and now they have 72 planes in there fleet. Era operate transportation of cargo, people and they do tours.

People say no to having light aircraft in their fleet because it's 'unrealistic'. Ill tell you what unrealistic, starting a new airline with 7 777's, 5 Airbusses, 10 737's etc (for example). If you want a realistic airline you should start with maybe 2 or 3 cheap light aircraft, earn some money, buy a bigger one (or more light ones), then eventually be getting jets.

Thanks for reading.

Yes. But every company does not start with Cessna 172! Many airlines start with e.g. 2 or 3 B737 or A320 or Emb170/190, Saab340, whatever. These days, starting with C172 is a nonsense. If an airline starts, they do not want to pay much for taking two passengers to the airport 20 nm farther! They want to earn much money, so they take min. 40 pax! Flying with C172 is unprofitable.

As above.

Of course they want to earn as much money as they want, but what if they don't have the money to purchase the 3 or so jets that you said? I think you might be underestimating the price of a jet. Buying 3 Boeing 737-800's would cost you $270 million. Not many people have that money before they start an airline... Why would they even want to make money if they had that?

Not many people even have 20 million or so for a 40 passenger plane. Also Im not saying that it's best to start with a 172, but maybe something like a Cessna Caravan? People pay more for smaller planes and private trips.

Unless your going to cheat and pretend your mega rich when you start your VA (which is the easy way to start), you should start small with maybe 1 or 2 million to start (which is pretty rich anyway). Era Alaska did it, but they started with one $50k cessna and now have 72 planes, why can't anyone else?

Yes. But who said they have to buy new aircraft? (new 737-800 costs $90,5 million - source: http://www.boeing.com/boeing/commercial/prices/)

It doesn't matter I think. Because we should have fun. Of course, don't start with 7 777, 5 A320 and 10 737, as you wrote above. We can start with e.g. 3x A320neo, as I said, and it's alright.

Actually, have you heard of the term capital investment?

Lol, usually a random individual doesn't start an airline. There is a group with a huge capital and/or they get a huge load. And $270 million is actually pretty small for most airlines' capital investments. :|
