Thanks to Julien & Gijs, the model update webform is now online. Enables the update of static or shared 3D models with improved or lighter models. Now available at the usual address http://scenemodels.flightgear.org/

Hi all,

Is it possible to submit different positions of the same STATIC object? For example, a hangar model that is very specific for an airport, but the airport have 5 or 6 of them.

Thanks!

Yes, it's possible, but not directly through the webform, as we have very very few of such requests.
Please send me a PM with the details (submit the 3D model as static first).

You could also submit your model as a shared one, then place it as many times as required.

Sure, but as it looks very specific to an airport (imagine n times the same hangar with the name of the airport written on it) the n times static option is lighter (avoids to make fgdata bigger again !). The latest case I remember is http://scenemodels.flightgear.org/modelview.php?id=3119

There's little to improve about your models, right? :-) They're already some of the best in the database. Looking forward to whatever you submit anyhow!

Thanks Gijs! I try to aim for quality but that mean less models.

New night&day textures for some shared industrial buildings are in the work...

Probably not the right topic to ask this but I get an error when trying to display webGL preview on the scenemodels website: "This model takes more than 5 seconds to load. The script has been canceled, to prevent it from crashing."

Any idea?

Hi Penta,

Is your file too large? If it is over 2mb FG can't handle it.

I don't think this is the problem. For example I used to see this model without problems: http://scenemodels.flightgear.org/modelview.php?id=745. The problem came out more than a week ago; at first I thought it was a temporary error but it is persisting.

Another thing which can stop the script running is unrecognised characters in the model name and/or textures.

Check to see if there is something like "/-*&^%$£@! in those fields.

Someone made a mistake with power pylons in FG Scenery

Power pylons placed very badly, and in bunches for no reason, sorry bad day today, this just toped it off :(

I have spotted up to about 100 of these in the UK, big frame killers, and dam sloppy work by who did this.

Any ideas to the fastest way of removing them from all the stg folders?

Too see them in FG go to EGBT, then head 25degs 3nm, you'll see them all over the place, and placed badly.
