Navigation data update

Postby G-OJIB » Thu Jul 18, 2013 8:37 pm

Hello everyone

Too many FlightGear users have problems actually with the obsolete navigation data that FlightGaer has. I have been using the simulator since v1.9.1 and sincerely it only has been updated a little in the last years. This is a suggestion to the FG main developers to make a better update for all navigation data INSTEAD only develop the graphic effects.. shaders and things like that, which obviously make better the simulator every day, but do not make it realistic as other simulators because always something is missing, the IFR realism.

The navigation data worldwide has been changed at least of 50 times since the last FlightGear update. Hundreds of waypoints, airways, VOR'S, NDB's have been created, other deleted

I would do somethig about, and i've tried to modify and update a lot of times the database, but, FlightGear does not recognise it :(

this is all very true, but the main bottleneck is not core development, but rather a rebuilding world scenery (as you may have noticed) - a bunch of people are hoping that 3.0 will ship with rebuilt scenery, including updated navdata.

You're right. For example, several Indonesian airports' ICAO code in FG is not updated. Some real life's waypoint is not working too. In real life, WADD has an ILS system, but in FG, there is no ILS system "installed" at WADD. There is a bunch of outdated nav info in FlightGear. I hope the FG Dev Team can respond to this important thing and make changes in the next version or at least in the 2.14.

The problem is not updating the data, the problem is it has to be in sync with the world scenery. We have already validated importing updated data, but until the new world scenery re-generation is successful, updating will lead to runways in the nav-data, which don't align, or exist, in the visual scenery.

Which is a worse problem than out of date, but consistent, nav-data. (You might disagree of course!)
