Tupolev 154 goes GPL

It has been almost 5 years since Tu-154B-2 first appeared in FlightGear. Now, after years of development and bug-fixing, release 3.0 is available - and it is GPL compliant and Rembrandt ready!

Unfortunately, many FlightGear pilots do not even know this airplane exists. The reason is, the Tu-154B-2 is a converted version of Project Tupolev's Tu-154 originally created for MFS. It was not GPL compliant, and, thus, not available on the FlightGear page for download. Till now.

We have now been allowed by Project Tupolev to distribute Tu-154B-2 under GNU/GPL. In addition, the model has undergone major overhaul regarding the Rembrandt project. It now provides a full specter of real lighting, for both exterior model and the cockpit.

The Tupolev Tu-154B-2 is one of the most sophisticated and beautiful airplanes in FlightGear. Hardly any other aircraft combines that much beauty of design and such a high degree of systems realization. With its flight dynamics based on a real Tu-154, it handles in the air like a real aircraft of its kind. However, due to its complexity, it might be not a suitable airplane for beginners.

Release 3.0 now features tire smoke and pushback. Also, navigation and beacon lights have been enhanced.

Even with Rembrandt disabled the cockpit looks beautiful.

Rembrandt is now fully supported, in the cockpit and on the exterior.

Wow, that's the best news I've heard in a long time! It's bedtime here now, but I know what I'll be doing tomorrow ;-) Thanks!!

Will you create a merge request for this? Else I can review it and commit the package directly to fgdata when all is fine. If we can get it in before July 17, it'll end up on the upcoming download page.

There are two ways to download the Tupolev Tu-154B-2: as a stable release and as a development revision from the SVN server.

The latter is known to be a better option since we don't create releases very often. For instance, a huge number of bugs has been fixed between January and June on the SVN server, and we managed to create a new release just now. However, keep in mind that due to an additional liveries pack in the development revisions, the SVN version of the Tu-154B-2 is not GPL compliant!

To download the stable release, simply use the link provided above.

To download a development revision from the SVN server, proceed as follows:

1. Download and install an SVN client. TortoiseSVN, for instance, does a good job.
2. With TortoiseSVN installed, create a folder on your computer. Name it "tu154b".
3. Right click the "tu154b" folder and select "SVN checkout" from the menu.
4. In the URL field, insert the SVN link: http://svn.dev.flightgear.ru/tu154b
5. Click OK. The aircraft is being downloaded in the "tu154b" folder.

When the download is complete, make sure to leave the "tu154b" folder where it is, and simply put a copy of it in your FG aircraft folder. If you move the "tu154b" folder entirely, you won't be able to receive the updates from SVN server and will need to download it again completely.

6. To download the updates, right click the original "tu154b" folder and select "SVN update" from the menu. The updates are being downloaded from the SVN server.

Else I can review it and commit the package directly to fgdata when all is fine

Ok, I'll commit it directly then. Just to be sure, should I take the download link, or the SVN verson (minus some liveries)?

during your review, please make sure to check that the aircraft handles reset/re-locating properly, which are often not supported by many aircraft: http://wiki.flightgear.org/Release:Airc ... n_Criteria

I'm not reviewing this aircraft with the intention to include it in the base package. I think it's too heavy for that (unless we would drop all other base aircraft) and the base package is already fixed anyway. But to take away your concern, yes it can be repositioned without any issues ;-)
