----o0o---- FG's 727-230 Tribute

Postby Michat » Mon May 13, 2013 10:37 am

Hi,all.

Here, today starts the FG's 727-230 Tribute.

I leave the FG's 727-230 at the parking of FNLU 4 de Fevreiro Airport in Luanda, Angola.

You, The FG's pilot-user-developer-lover, with honor and honesty. You may take this aircraft, fly wherever you want, then report where you have landed the aircraft.

Example of report:
@Michat 727-230 FNLU Luanda, Angola. Remarks: Hard landing due a very bad rwy conditions. Watch out VRV. NDB failure and bad propagation. Birds alert. Warzone areas alert. Full stop to repair a flaperon.

Next pilot you, fly and report, and so on. Screenies will be appreciated.

Why to start in Africa? Because is really pretty skilled area to fly.

Note: 727-230 is a heavy aircraft that has 8 flaps position, it has no so much instruments on board but the generic ap is working fine. If anyone want to improved it along this big tribute, is free to do it, but please don't touch the dinamics. LOL.

Do you need motivation? Here it is:

Hi All And Hola Michat

Ths is a very fun proposal! 727-200* Boeing is second Boeing Airliner ever developed (after the 707) in the early 60's, and actually, today still used but in limited service. It is also the first airliner in using the trijet-engines mounted on the tail. More than enough credits to be honored by a FG's tribute.

Interestingly, you placed the 727 in Quatro de Fevereiro Airport in Angola, where, according to Wiki entry
<<On 25 May 2003, a Boeing 727–223 with the registration number N844AA, which had been parked at the airport for over a year, was stolen in mysterious circumstances>>; So I guess, under your multiplayer game "dynamics" we can get to use the N844AA plane, rite?

Anyways, I report I already begun this plane Random Odyssey

@IH-COL 727-230 FGSL, Malabo-Santa Isabel Airport, Guinea Ecuatorial. Remarks, Dense low altitude fog. Landing successful. Plane on taxiway, parallel to RWY.
http://mpserver12.flightgear.org/tracker/pilot/IH-COL/flight/145965/

FlightPlan: B727-230, IH-COL | FNLU [UR526F] LIKAD [UR526] LV (112.1) [UG857] BATA [G857] (325) DLA (112.9) [B737] FGSL | FL310, 0.82 Ma

Will post screen-shots and some modifications I did to the fuel amounts of this plane later.

Hmm, sounds familiar. A very interesting story, that I only remember fragments of.

Cool idea Michat! I'm afraid I can't participate and I'm not a very good pilot anyways, but I recall the 727 being fun to fly. Watch out for the rudder!!!!! I once got it to oscillate out to +-50°, at which point the wing facing forwards promptly flew upwards and I found myself upside-down!

@Johan: I actually have that Air & Space magazine. It's full of aviation mysteries but I notice that there's a suspicious amount of airliners in there; rain man anyone? ;)

Thank you people for the good welcome to the FG's 727-230 Tribute.

IH-COL Good pilot, it seems the maiden flight was a success not a crash. Already is hard to fly in Africa. Lets see how others do. Very thanks for the fuel mod.

And yes the dinamic of this 727-230 is awesome with pedals and yoke is incredible doing the crab app and the pull up and glare is the best. I must to declare under oath that the 727 by mysterious circumstances is not at my home which is a pitty.

Thank for sharing.

Interesting you mention about the success or crash situation. Because the actual Maiden flight of this 727- was a crash not a success.
Essentially, The Boeing 727 specifications indicate a fully loaded range of about 1900 nm; Well I decided to take the plane to Malabo, Guinea Ecuatorial fully loaded confident that it will fly those 900 nm easy. Well... it didnt. Short a few nm of the RWY I got engines off, fuel fully consumed and the maiden flight end up in the ocean, no options!

http://mpserver12.flightgear.org/tracker/pilot/IH-COL/flight/145769/

Well, I went back to notice that I had a maximum fuellable amount of some 3000 gallons of fuel. Wait a min!? This aircraft was supposed to be equipped with like 8000 gallons . So I check and I was supposed to be able to have 3 tanks, the two wing tanks with up to 1800 gallons each, of balanced fuel, and the center tank with another 4000+ gallons (for the standard fueling configuration). Well, I did appended the code so more accurate conditions are now met. An the plane could get to Malabo well more than comfortably.
An interesting thing about the configuration is that the plane is using the center tank to begin with and the pilot should switch on the two lateral tanks just when center hits 1800. currently up to the pilot how to monitor that fuel closely while needed :S. Could it be cool to get it switched on automatically?

I will be looking forward to plan more trips within this event. And perhaps it will be nice to code some VOR/ADF and DME indicators in the cockpit. Navigating with the 2D panel that comes with SHIFT+P is not fun

Well, another 727 disappear, to be honest I supposed you had problems watching your last part of the descend profile. As I told in the briefing the 727-230's panel is not the best. But autopilot works fine. About the fuel I had to refuel usually to get balance, if not she makes the wheelie on ground.

Anyway I appreciate your honor and honesty reporting the crash. Next time with fuel patch will be better. However, I choose Africa for the hard conditions. So I hope to have more crashes. That's the quest. Hopefully you have payed the prize of glory, and your contribution give you another try. Thats the rule.

Your screenies are excellent. Interesting how your fg merges the Cruzeiro and the lufthansa texture on a single one.

Now need another pilot to head the quest.

Motivation needed, some tips ? This is the best way to fly the FG'727-230. I suggest Direct to and visual pattern. VFR rule is the basis for survival in Africa.

Motivation here.

Thanks for sharing.

Just to clarify

1) I attempted landing to FGSL. fuel insuficient
2) I wrote the fuel patch
3) I flew it again, and landed just fine and taxied off RWY to the parallel taxiway.

Im glad you enjoyed the screenies. Departing FNLU. An aerial view showing a bug on the liveries: If you switch from the lufthansa, to the brasilian airline, and then to default you get a mix: tail and body are from different airlines :P Then A cool view of Mount Cameroon when turning to approach Malabo. Last screenie is when RWY got visual (less than 1000' :S )

Hehe
Well, that of doing missed approaches is some skill I have to learn. It may well save me more than a couple of times.
Anyways,
Challenge accepted Michat ;)

(just joking).

I had not seen pilots joining in, and I already have a next flight plan.

I am planning to share some more development on the B727. Essentially, as noticed before there is a bug in the liveries management. I corrected that, plus took the liberty of preparing 4 extra liveries for this model, such for being able to impersonate the pilot in the video you've shown. I had stamped all of the liveries in this model now with a "Tribute Logo"

Also updated the splash screen:

I will be uploading a tar file with the Aircraft with the changes included. Also providing XCF files for people willing to modify/improve the liveries (known secret: I am not great at graphics!)

See you soon,

Thanks you IAHM-COL, your contribution is appreciated. Maybe you are not good with graphics, however you go further than I could with liveries. Feel free to fly the 727.
