View different planes

Is it possible to use a property for the at-model-idx to make it possible to switch model that you look at in flight? Or do you feed the look at positions from different models to do that? Or maybe another way?

I'm not really sure what you are after, but if I understand you correctly you want to switch the model that is shown.

I think that rebootl had something like that for his Lockheed U-2S and its ejection seat. If I understood it right he at the time of ejection swapped the aircraft for the ejection seat and added the aircraft as a submodel.

Have a peek on this topic: Current development: U-2S droppable pogos and ejection seat.

I would like to look at an other model, selected during flight.

Ah, sorry, my misunderstanding. Are you referring to Model view?

why exactly do you want to show a different 3D model ? LOD/performance optimizations ?

As I already had nasal code (to show the "blips" on the radar) that calculated relative angle in pitch and heading to MP-aircrafts I used that to drive the goal-offsets in a view. Now I can look at the nearest aircraft with a single button press. :)
But maybe there is some other way to do it?
