If it would be really user friendly
some pilots would use it. We do have two trackers, the
FG Tracker (with among other things the possibility to download Google KML file tracks importable to GIS software) and the
MPserver12 Tracker, but they have their limitations. Among other things you can not explicitly see your flying time (from lift off to touch down).
I also see some small attempts to make it possible to file simplified flight plans to some ATC areas, and development of ATC tools such as OpenRadar.
I kind of dream of a central repository for voluntary flight plan filing, updating information about the traffic flow by ATCs and at least as accessible as the trackers. Preferably it would be useful for both simplified flight plan filing as seen today, and with some kind of form filling wizard for more real life flight plans for those who are interested in that, the same goes for the updating of the traffic flow information by the ATCs.
The tricky thing with FlightGear, and great thing as well, is that it is to a very large extent possible to mix every category of virtual pilots all the way from pre-teen pilots to real life very experienced pilots. The same goes for ATCs and all kinds of developers (scenery, scenery objects, liveries, aircraft, aircraft systems, code etc). I feel that that should not be inhibited, but rather encouraged. Some of the curious ones that tested that free flight sim kind of got stuck, and started to aggregate knowledge and new skills.
