fgrun - Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Postby emarkay » Tue Mar 19, 2013 11:45 pm

Ubuntu 12.04.2 using new install FG2.10 from the new PPA.

Have my config set up as:
viewtopic.php?f=35&t=19329
(Shouldn`t the Terrasync exe be in usr/games as is fgfx exe?)

I saved the config file and each time I load fgrun it is blank. Loading the config file exits fgrun instantly. Running it from terminal gets the Seg fault in the title.

I did have 2.8 and fgrun working ok last night... :( I removed it all and then reinstalled 2.10 and thought it would be just as simple to run...

Thank you!

I'm having the same issue. It ran a few times but not anymore. Seems like it may be associated with the F-14B.?? Maybe. I was able to configure fgrun the first time I ran it. I saved the config too. I notice that all aircraft are listed twice now. Wasn't that way before when it was operational. I'll post if I find a solution. Here's a screenshot:

I see this for 10-15 sec then crash. Can't interact with the program at all.

***REVISED***

Ok. That was quick and easy. The problem is not associated with fgrun. It is caused by the dxtn libraries. They apparently control the compression of textures. Fgrun crashes when it tries to use the libraries to put textures on the preview models of the aircraft.
SOLUTION
Using the Synaptic Package Manager, search for "dxtn" and remove the libraries
Not sure of what effects this is gonna have on other programs. Time will tell.
I found this solution by reading this post http://www.flightgear.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=19229

***After further troubleshooting I found that the real issue is that OpenGL was running on the CPU and not the GPU on the graphics card. I had to install the nVidia Driver. That solved it good! I guess the dxtn texture compression was just too much for the CPU and it crashed. After installing the nVidia driver I reinstalled the dxtn libraries, and it works fine now.***

Previous versions of Ubuntu made it more obvious that the driver needed to be installed.

ALready using the xswat "updated as far as possible" drivers (Nvidia 304.64) I know thre's a 310 out there but it's not compiled/tested...
I saw the duplicates in fgrun in 2.08.....
Wish I had done more coding and programming as a youth - then I could fix this mess...... It's gotta be that there is no central repository for ALL of this - built and tested in Linux first... ;)

Yeah. Guess I shoulda wrote possible solution, huh. Hope you are able to get the driver soon. I imagine I'd see improvements with the 310 driver too
