OSX launcher terrasync folder

Postby Sigmoid » Tue Mar 26, 2013 9:47 am

Where does the OSX launcher set the terrasync folder path by default? Is there a way to change it?

If it's set inside the .app file, I'd like to set it to a folder within the user's home folder.

It's already inside the user's home folder, in the 'only' location we are permitted to write too, $HOME/Library/Application Support/FlightGear

To be technical, that's the value of 'FG_HOME', which is where we store all temporary / user-local data such as saved prefs, TerraSync files and aircraft-specific config state. The OSX launcher doesn't actually set this path (any more), this location is the default used by FlightGear itself. You can of course override these paths and set FG_HOME or the TerraSync path manually, from the command line or a config file, but the defaults should 'do what you want'.

Regarding $FG_HOME, please see: http://wiki.flightgear.org/$FG_HOME

That sounds good, but the manual said something entirely different:

Code: Select all
4.4.2 Enabling on-the-fly scenery downloading

By checking Download scenery on the fly at the launcher window, the scenery data will be downloaded while you’re flying using TerraSync. The scenery downloader will install the scenery data into
/Applications/FlightGear.app/Contents/Resouces/data/Scenery-Terrasync.

...which is so wrong I cannot even start describing it. :)

Okay, then someone needs to update the manual :)

it would probably make sense to also use the cmake build system for creating the manual, that way the original SG/FG preprocessor macros could be used, and instead of "hard-coding" :D such paths, we could simply refer to the variables used by the main source trees instead. That way, changed paths would be automatically changed in the docs, too - after a rebuild of course.
