Upload new Picture-Versions to WIKI

Postby jomo » Tue Jan 15, 2013 10:18 am

I am trying to replace some old version pictures with new ones (working on the http://wiki.flightgear.org/OpenRadarGuide).
But get all the time "The upload directory (public) is not writable by the webserver."

I am working on Ubuntu 12-04 with Firefox 18.0. And I did upload that old picture myselfe under the same UID from the same PC (less than a month ago)!

What I do:
- open the document
- click onto the picture that shall be changed
- the infos are shown and confirm as User "Jomo (Talk | contribs)"
- i click on "Upload a new version of this file"
- I "Browse" to the new version I have on my disk
- and click "Upload file"
--> red "The upload directory (public) is not writable by the webserver."

Does anybody has an idea? I do not want to overload the wiki with hunderets of outdated files/pictures!
thanks in advance
joe

We've moved the wiki to a new server this weekend, so it may be that your DNS still points to the old server, or our new server isn't completely set up yet. I'll have q look when I get home (if I get home, we got 10 cm of snow over the night, which is a lot for Dutch public transport ;-) ).

Thanks Gijs
It does not matter if I upload today or next week!
Take your time and enjoy the snow - who kows when there will be snow again in NL!
Also in Mainz it snows only 3-5 days a year!

Just to let you know:
I just tried again - and
- I could upload without error-indication
- opening the document it shows an "error creating thumbnail" - and no picture
- taking out the "|thumb|" from the picture callup shows the picture in full size - BUT THE OLD ONE
- actually it shows always the old one (without "|thumb|") - as well under the old as under the new name!
- see the "File history": http://wiki.flightgear.org/File:OpenRad ... -Linux.png --> the update is there
- but under the new new name "OpenRadar-Welcome_Select Airports.png" I find nothing

Is it allowed to rename a picture when uploading an update?

thx for working on it

Unless you have already done so, test clearing your browser cache and see if that might help. It's a longshot, but it just might work.

Jesus Christ -- starting today I believe in Magic again! --> "clearing the cache" worked!!! (by the way by using the OLd picture-name in the source - which is ok!)

I am sorry: I do know about that trick - but did not get the idea to do it because yesterday it did not just bring the old picture - but also reported that "error creating thumbnail" on my page (when doing "Preview") and also showed that inside the library! Anyhow: I tried this morning again after power off/on (first without the "reload") and the error was gone - but it did show the old picture. So I tried "reload" and it worked!! Magic!

So thanks a lot for that hint "clearing your browser" - it worked! (Unbelievable - but true!)
Thank you all
joe

AND NOW I feel really stupid: Is there anywhere described how to mark "Topic solved"? I used to know - but forgott - and do not find any description anywhere!
