AutoRotate

Helicopter flying is completely different from flying a fixed-wing aircraft and thus requires different skills.

AutoRotate

Hi, i'm new to flightgear and was just wondering if it's possible to make a successful autorotate landing in a helicopter upon an "engine failure"?

Basically it is possible. I have done this several times with a few helicopters in FGFS.

Do not expect full realism - your mileage may vary here.

I've done it many times in my Mosquito XE. I've made sure it's possible. Look into M-XE thread for more info.

E.g. EC135 and EC130 can do it too . . .
. . . UH-1 not :(

This would be quite surprisingly for several reasons. First of all the flight data model has been developed with the intensive aid of a former Huey pilot and is one of the most realistic ones in FGFS at all.
Second the UH-1 in real life has a quite amazing autorotation behavior as it (at least some versions) is capable of softly autorotating to the ground, then take off again with spinning blades to make a 90° turn and set it down again.

It would be quite a pity if the FGFS Huey failed here in all disciplines.

I tried it many times, because the ec135 does it. But it was never possible to do that with the Huey.
If you turn down the collective it goes directly to earth. The ec135 in this situation goes down with autorotation.
So please give me a description to make a situation with autorotation .... and try it yourself.
I love this Heli!!!!

hi! I thought autorotation is landing without any motor. ("Fällt bei einem Hubschrauber während dem Flug der Antrieb aus, wird der Pilot sofort den kollektiven Blatteinstellwinkel verringern und der Hubschrauber beginnt zu sinken.") But turning down the motor my ec135 crashed ... Did you try that?

Sorry for my very late reply :(

Press the mmb and drag down to set the engine to idle.
You have to use helicopters like ec135 or bo105!
The UH-1 e.c. can't do that :(
