Adil, yes, that has worked! :D
Translating the options really takes the biggest effort - thanks again for taking the time!
Changes are in the repository now - and will be part of the next 2.8.0 release (candidate) setup.

Btw, Adil and everyone else translating: if you need further changes/corrections to a file you have previously worked on, please always start with a fresh download (see download links above, which always provide the latest version of the file directly from the repository). There's usually a few technical changes to the file once it's processed and pushed to the repository, so these shouldn't get lost/need to be redone when further updates are made.

Re: FG2.8.0: Spanish menu.xml file

Postby sa7k » Fri Jul 13, 2012 12:23 pm

Sorry for the delay, I am without connection to the Internet at home.
This is the menu.xml translation to spanish.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/37971113/menu.xml
Edit: added the options.xml file too
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/37971113/options.xml
I know it says it maybe is not needed to translate the debug menu but there is a menu item that is not translatable there, the one that is after "reload network" I think it says "reload model".

sa7k: ¡Muchas gracias! Your updates are in the repository now. :)
Also thanks for spotting the "reload aircraft model" issue - this is also fixed now, so it's translatable, too.

(Usual disclaimer: if anyone wants further updates to language resources, please always start working on files from a fresh download.)

I've a question: Is there also a way to translate the in-game-tutorials? Is that also possible with FlightGear 2.8 ?

Not the way the menu translations work. You could make a translated copy of the tutorial and add it with a different name (eg. with the language in the title) though..

actually, it shouldn't be too difficult to also make the tutorials translatable using the same technique. After all, the tutorial system is also just a PropertyList XML file and some Nasal code. So the same technique could definitely be used here - just by using io.read_properties() and overwriting the translated strings.

@flightflan: Tell us what tutorial you'd like to translate, so that we can have a look and work out if/how the tutorial system would need to be modified to support translations, it's not like this would be a huge change or very difficult ... certainly not if you are satisfied with having it 80-90% translated.

EDIT:

Looking at the c172p tutorials: http://gitorious.org/fg/fgdata/blobs/ma ... tartup.xml
It would already be a good start to translate all the message tags, e.g.:

Code: Select all
<message>Welcome to Livermore Municipal Airport. In this lesson we'll go through the pre-startup checks and start the aircraft.</message>

To do this, you really only need to provide another XML file and add the corresponding nodes (copy/paste), e.g.:

Code: Select all
<PropertyList>
<step n="0">
    <message>Welcome to Livermore Municipal Airport. In this lesson we'll go through the pre-startup checks and start the aircraft.</message>
  </step>
  <step>
    <message>Before we start up, we need to brief what we'll do in case of an engine fire on startup. As
      this isn't our aircraft, and we're fully insured, we'll simply open the door and run away.</message>
  </step>
  <step>
    <message>Next, we check our seatbelts, and seat adjustments. Cessnas can get worn seat rails that
      sometimes cause the seat to slip backwards, often just as you take off, so make sure it is secure.</message>
  </step>
</PropertyList>

Next, edit the file and translate everything to Spanish/Portugese.
And then, just include it after the original file - so that it overwrites the English messages, that's it.

To support this automatically, the tutorial.nas script would need to be slightly modified: http://wiki.flightgear.org/Tutorials

Thanks & all the best,

Already late for 2.8.0, but still working on Portuguese files, please hold on... Upload soon!

EDIT:
Uploaded menu.xml to 4shared because I didn't want to have to download dropbox, so sorry if you don't like it... (2012-08-19 14:23 UTC)
http://www.4shared.com/document/pnn_5HS ... _menu.html

Working now on options.xml, not sure if I will have enough time, and apparently the XML has gone bugged. Expect delays, and if somebody else wants to work on it, feel free...

Sorry for the big delay.

I know it can no longer be included in this version 2.8, but below are the links to the files of the translation into Portuguese:

Tell me a little about this kind of translation. I could translate to both finnish and swedish, i speak them both.

Jollekin se olisi aika hyvä asia että kääntäisiin moni kielelle. (finnish)

För vissa skulle det vara en ganska bra sak att man översätter till många språk. (swedish)

See the first post of this topic for all the details. Note that you'll be translating the latest files from Gitorious, because we've added a few more features since 2.8.0 ;-)

You don't need Git to translate, only to see all the translations being used in-sim.

Just download one of the existing translations (this Dutch menu file for example http://mapserver.flightgear.org/git/?p= ... ml;hb=HEAD right click > save as) and replace the Dutch words/sentences with Finnish. You can look at the English file to see what everything is supposed to mean http://mapserver.flightgear.org/git/?p= ... ml;hb=HEAD. Work your way through the file and share it when you're done, so we can add it to the next release.
