Help needed with first compilation

Postby fdhenard » Wed Apr 18, 2012 2:16 pm

I am attempting to compile flightgear for the first time on Ubuntu using the download_and_complile.sh script. I initially had problems getting fgdata because it is huge, but was helped by this wiki entry.

I saw a post in the forum of someone having the same problem, and the post said to re-run the script. First I was surprised to find it recompiling OSG since I had already done that, and it's also a lengthy process. I let it go overnight, and this morning found this error.

Code: Select all
****************************************
**************** SIMGEAR ***************
****************************************
simgear exists already.
fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly

Is there a more modular way to go about this compilation? How can I procede without having to rerun the script and recompile OSG?

Thanks!

Hi Frank,

You can find all the help you need with this command
Code: Select all
sh download_and_compile.sh -h

You can see how to use download_and_compile.sh script.

If you use
Code: Select all
sh download_and_compile.sh ALL
you re-compile all package (as you found it ;) )
You can also compile or update all package independently with these commands :
Code: Select all
sh download_and_compile.sh PLIB
sh download_and_compile.sh OSG
sh download_and_compile.sh SIMGEAR
sh download_and_compile.sh FGFS
sh download_and_compile.sh FGO
... (look in the script help for more)

Don't forget do use "-a n" option if you have already installed all dependence and use "-j X" option if you have a multicore proc (personnally I have Intel I5 and I use "-j 8" but during the compilation my computer goes slow with other soft)

Cheers,
Clément

Thanks Clément! That got me beyond the issues.

I find that I have grand ideas to become a flightgear programmer, but then reality sets in that it would take me a couple lifetimes to do it in conjunction with regular life. :) I guy can dream though.

Thanks again, and I enjoy what you all do on flightgear!
