hey
Just came across your thread. I also had my first flight in this aircraft only two months ago. Your model looks great can't believe you've done it so quick. Are you studing year 12. What subjects and what curriculum. I'm doing Specialist Maths, Maths Studies, Physics and Chem and are studing under the SACE curriculum as am from South Australia. Finding it quite challenging how about you.

It's exactely what it will be implemented. You can see it in the TODOList of Rembrandt project : http://wiki.flightgear.org/Project_Rembrandt#TODO_List
implement strength of glow (in the emissive buffer alpha channel) :
- provide levels 0 to 5 - we are currently at level 5
- level 0 should be ok for MFDs that are currenly unreadable because blurred

By the way, Fred can you give me an idea on how to use od_gauge to continuously render a camera view to texture? I don't really know much about it but then every says that Project Rembrandt involves continuous rendering to texture.

And, is there a way to get terrain as a view? I mean, sorta like changing the color based on terrain. Oh, and I'd also need to place my own texture on the terrain, instead of the materials textures..

So, that's not just using od_gauge, for a terrain view, I'd need to actually re-render the whole terrain with some extra stuff...

Here's a picture of the real thing..

So, I was thinking we have the basic terrain and have a checker box texture over it.

And then diffuse it according to this gradient based on altitude.

Any ideas? 8)

No I am currently in Year 10 in Queensland. However I'm originally from New South Wales ergo I am, age-wise, appropriate for Year 11.
I study "Authority English" (OP English. One needs an OP to go to Uni here), Maths B (Extension. OP), Science Extension (Has to be done so I can do Physics next year), Geography (always been one of my loves, also one of my strong points), Legal Studies (Aviation Law ;)) and a Certificate I in Business, because it gives me 2 out of 20 credits required for my Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE)

Gotta love the different systems in each state. -__-

We must have a fly around together sometime, whether in the J170 or not. There's too few Australian's active in the community. I think there's like 8 or 9.

Sam.

connect, if you have gotten Git GUI by now, I should be able to walk you through it on Skype. Oh, and I got bored and decided to see what Aeromatic would generate from the j170's data. The resulting FDM behaved as described in the POH MUCH better than the FDM Omega made, as well as the variations I made from it. Unlike Omega's FDM, it's able to stall at the right speeds, have no problems reaching 90+ kts, AND cruises with the nose at at least 0 degrees. I think we should probably just stick with the Aeromatic FDM, but switch in Omega's ground reactions and inertia stuff. Oh, and I used JSBSim Commander to visualize the tables. I noticed a very large difference in the lift due to alpha tables. Omega's FDM produces a very weird saw-tooth shape. The Aeromatic FDM actually produces a curve. Anyway, I hope you will take a look at it, and compare it to what you already have. I think you might enjoy it, considering it's stall speeds are where they're supposed to be, rather than 20 KIAS higher. At least you'll be able to get off the ground at less than 65 KIAS, AND cruise normally.

@connect, may I suggest using the mapserver instead of gitorious (it's faster)?
Code: Select all
git clone git://mapserver.flightgear.org/fgdata

I prefer git bash instead of the GUI, because it just looks c00l3r :P .

Also, try this step-by-step tutorial which is available in my website: http://flightgearcorner.x10.mx/?page_id=164

I don't like to hijack forum threads, so just a little comment to omega95: all these little cool gadgets you make on nasal are very stunning, I always like to waste most of my time on them rather than flying lol, but also a good way to spend some time on long and boring flights  .

It's my understanding that you can only download from that. He needs to be able to upload his changes. Git will allow that.

Omega, I use a development snapshot, I only want to get Git working so I can commit/pull/etc. the aircraft. :L
So your tutorial doesn't really help.

Dwayne, cheers, I've got 2 weeks off starting today, so I'm sure we'll be able to have a few skype sessions in that time.

Cheers,
Sam.

Last I checked, connect wasn't all that computer-savvy. I mean, that wiki page just assumes the reader knows how to use the console interface for whatever OS they're using. I'm pretty sure he looked at that page already, and found it to be useless to him, which is why he has asked for help with it.

Alright, so I extracted some Jabiru 2200 Engine Sounds from a video and divided it into startup, running and shutdown.. I also put them in j170-sound.xml and it works fine.. But then this isn't the only aircraft that uses the Jabiru_2200 Engine, so wouldn't these sounds be better in the $FG_ROOT/Sounds folder?

I have the sounds here (https://gitorious.org/fg-jabiru-j170/fg-jabiru_2200-sounds) atm and you need the jabiru folder in $FG_ROOT/Sounds to be able to hear the engines while flying your latest pull of the J-170..

And, can someone add this to the official fgdata repo? :)

Sorry to be so late in replying. Your Jabiru-170 is going to be one of the most realist models on flight gear. I would love to go flying with you especially in your wonderful model :D . When do you think you might have it available for download :?:

Well, our development directory is available in git (https://gitorious.org/fg-jabiru-j170/fg-jabiru-j170-main) but then the Dynon Skyview D-1000 and Garmin Aera500 GPS still needs a lot of work...

We were asked to wait for Project Rembrandt b4 we continue on synthetic terrain for the Skyview... :|

Cheers.

I am not sure if Fred in particular made that request. But my impression is that any "new" hard coded C++ instrument, such as the SkyView you are referring to, wouldn't really be any more (or less) "broken" then all current MFD-style C++ instruments. A "glowing" instrument isn't really "broken" in my opinion though ;-)
