Livery submission stats are pretty linear in 2011 :D

Repeating my own post from last year:
Gijs wrote in Fri May 13, 2011 10:40 pm:About 1/4th of all te liveries at the livery database does not have a thumbnail (yet). I'd like to request anyone to send me one (maybe two or more) thumbnails of one of the liveries that shows the "No thumb available" image. To make it slightly easier, I've created a page with liveries-that-lack-thumbnails: http://liveries.flightgear.org/liveries ... bnails.php So please have a look there and spend 2 minutes or so on create a 350*250 JPEG thumbnail of the flying aircraft.

We despereately need more thumbnails, to make the database more attractive and make it easier for visitors to choose what to download.

Altough today just 6% of the liveries are lacking thumbs, it's still too much. So contributions are welcome! ;-)

Worked on a new feature recently. Tonight I managed to finish it far enough to be published.
It's a search engine, allowing you to search the database for that specific livery that you'd always wanted to download!

http://liveries.flightgear.org/search.php

Feedback is greatly appreciated!

Err.. If I just select an aircraft I would at least expect something like "Too many hits, try to be more specific!", but instead selecting the DC-3 and having the rest of the list boxes set to "All (airlines|alliances|authors)", and an empty keyword field I just get "Your search gave no results". :(

Hello,

I tried to go to http://liveries.flightgear.org/ but it failed. In the beginning of this year, i can access it. But for some unknown reasons, the page won't load for me. All i get is Problem Loading Page. Was there a change in server for this website?

Zhuang

P.S. http://wiki.flightgear.org/ also have the same problem.

The wiki and livery database are on the same server. Every now and then they are down, but usually they're back up a little later. So please try again in 15 minutes or so.

It does load for me now and did so half an hour ago, so maybe you've hit it at the bad moment? ;-)

I've just added a seperate "thumbnail" upload field to the livery database. So instead of zipping the thumbnail in the livery package, you are now required to load this seperately. Your thumbnail is automatically checked for the criteria (size, format) and errors are shown if necessary.

This saves me a lot of manual checking work and should hopefully improve processing times. I still get way too many incomplete or non complying packages. Further automated checking of the livery package itself is in the works.

Please report bugs!

PS: We crossed the 800th livery mark!

Two comments: (1) I hope you are still are checking both the thumbnails and the liveries before adding them to the database. (2) I wonder if it will be possible to add a thumbnail to a livery missing one using the form.

1) Of course, but I prefer to only check liveries that at least comply to the rules that I've written down very clearly (I think). It's nothing but a waste of time for me to reply to people that they need to attach a thumbnail, or that their thumbnail is not the correct size...
2) Hm, you need to add a livery package and a thumbnail. So no, that is not possible. If I have some spare time I might add a missing-thumbnail-upload-form :-) Please send thumbnails in the mean time directly to my email (you've got my address).

I've just added this option. Liveries without thumbnail will have an "upload thumbnail" link, as can be seen at http://liveries.flightgear.org/liveries.php?id=26 Clicking the link will bring you to the upload form.

As a side effect you can now upload paintkits as well via the form, just choose your "contribution type". :-)

Preferably in xcf. Zip the file before uploading it (limit of the zip is 10 mb). Looking forward to it!
