I just wonder...should the tail-wheel really be controllable, as it is in fdm? I do not know for sure, but just guessing that they were free-turning (and that's the point of tail wheel lock - to prevent turning while take-off/landing) - isn't it so?
By the way, isn't it too sensitive to winds? Even with 3 kt crosswind it becomes quite difficult to handle (interesting, but didn't spot much difference between 3 and 8 kt crosswind take-off), it leans to the left quite fast. At 21 kts wind I could not keep it on the runway at all, even by brakes (it rather turned over to its nose then corrected its direction). Should it really be this way, am I missing something?
Thank you.
P.S. I mean the tail-dragger one, not floated one.
P.P.S. Should confess - 21 kts crosswind can be too strong to me - couldn't bring to skies even Me-109 (unless full throttle and nearly burning my engine, and also with a large angle to the centre line to the runway), which is my most usual plane in FG (loosing skills, certainly). But still, it seems like dc-3 is a bit more sensitive to winds than I would expect...or is it only from my view?

Hi Alral,

Yes the tail-wheel is controllable  You have 2 mode : locked and unlocked

Tail-wheel locked = You can turn on the ground using rudder axis
Tail-wheel unlocked = You can turn on the ground using brake left and brake right (in this way the tail-wheel is "tail-dragger")

I hope I've answer to your question

About the wind sensibility, the Douglas DC3 is highly sensible to wind. It's very very important to take-off face to wind. If you take-off face to wind you can control the DC3 even with 40kts wind come from 20 deg lateral (I testing to take-off on RWY 13 with 40kts from 150)

The PAF team continue to work on the DC3 and we post soon a new release with :
- Loading reduced for MP (use animation type "range")
- copilot and passenger can see interior as they like with a menu
- new rudder
- and many other little things and correction

Currently we work with a GIT repository, so you can download it here : https://gitorious.org/paf
(Contains scenery and aircraft tuned by PAF team)

Cheers,
Clément

Hello
Didn't know about tail wheel. Thank you. That's why I felt surprised when saw that tail wheel is controlled by rudder - I thought DC-3 didn't have this option.
(actually, does make some unpleasant feelings on the runway, but let it be).

Face to wind...would be nice, if possible (we have mostly airports with one runway...seems like I should get on floats next time - fortunately we've got enough water).
But OK, 21 kts crosswind is a bit too much not only for DC-3.

Thank you for your replies. Nice to hear that development continues. A nice good plane...
(By the way, noted such thing. At night windows are glowing and so you cannot see anything from the window in cabin view. Maybe it's worth binding that glowing to the current view? If it hasn't been done yet - my dc3 version is not the newest, I guess).

Hi,

I have often read that glass reflection is annoying. Currently the DC-3 using standard effect :
Code: Select all
  <animation>
    <type>shader</type>
    <shader>chrome</shader>
    <texture>Aircraft/Generic/Effects/glass_shader.png</texture>
    <object-name>glasses</object-name>
  </animation>

And has the possibility to disable this effect with "DC3/C47 Options" GUI. But I would like to improve this effect.
My question is : Can you tell me which glasses reflection do you like ? (give me a example: aircraft, screenshot, without effect...)

Thanks to all

And some news of improvement by PAF team :
- New overhead resize more realist
- Fix glass bug reported by Alral
- New hydraulic instrument
- New radio system
- New window more realist
- New texture High Resolution
- Paratroopers door opening by the interior

You can download the last stable release from PAF team in our Hangar : http://equipe-flightgear.forumactif.com ... -de-la-paf

Is this the same as the model in Emmanuel's hanger or do we now have two versions :?: :?

You can download the last stable release from PAF team in our Hangar

How do you download from here, I'm not seeing any download links in Firefox :?:

@gooneybird
The glass effect applied to the (glass)windows, the (glass)instruments etc are generic. But indeed, most of helijah's aircraft make use of this "generic" glass effect as well as many other aircraft. The effect just do some magics with an image located at fgdata/Aircraft/Generic/Effects/glass_shader.png (btw, you can alter it to get ride of it). On some windows, instruments etc it give more or less a good effect. But most of the the time, it's just somethings very annoying like you may have seen :/ The idea/system is good, maybe is it time to refine the image?? Personally, i tried some tweaks on it but couldn't get somethings good yet.

My approach to glass effect on my models is simple, and in my humble opinion, works fine: I use the generic chrome effect, but only in a single-sided "glass" material. So, the effect is visible only from outside; people inside cockpit don't advice the effect... and they are not bothered for it.

The chrome effect is annoying only with a double-sided object, which make it visible from inside (with some hard & strange light lines) and outside.

Since the helijah model is under GPL we use the model made by helijah but we have brought many of improvement. So our version is more sophisticated than version available in helijah Hangar.
Now the PAF team has his own hangar with many aircraft which we have more or less improved. But the original author stays. It's just we take an aircraft, we improve it and we diffuse it so you have the choice to use the basic version from helijah hangar (in case of helijah models) or our sophisticated version from PAF hangar when available.
A good comparaison is << Mercedes-Benz made a car, then AMG improves this car >> she stays an Mercedes-Benz but improved by AMG ;)
EDIT : we have also planned to improve other aircraft from different author.

@dvanmosselbeen : Thanks for your precisions. I hope Gooneybird will find the link now

@El Fauta : Thanks for your opinion. And for glass instruments what is your opinion ? Can you tell me an aircraft who use your glass effect technique in order to test it ? Thanks you

Cheers,
Clément

The problem is I have no links, here's the page source for the "Douglas DC-3 C47 : > Télécharger / Download <" section of the web page, as you can see there are no links :?
Code: Select all
<span style="font-size: 18px; line-height: normal;"><font color="green">Douglas DC-3 C47 :</font> &gt; Télécharger / Download &lt;</span>

EDIT : Thank you for the explanation Clément, now I understand.

Ooops I'm absolutely sorry gooneybird this is my fault. In the forum administration the option "Hide external links for visitors" was enabled ! Now I've disabled it so you can see the link ;)
Sorry for that, I hope you will forgive me :D

About that window bug...
Downloaded from the link on the previous page. As far as I can see, you can now see the window glowing while looking from inside, but not when from outside. Shouldn't be vice versa?
