Scenery webtools (adding, editing, deleting objects&models).

Hi all,

My small presents for the FG community. The semi-automatic import and deletion tool for shared objects are in the place!

URL is: http://scenemodels.flightgear.org/submission/

The goal of these tools is to ease the insertion and deletion of shared models position within the FG scenery database both for the submitters and the scenery maintainer(s). Hope this will make the number of positions increase!

The request is then automatically sent to Martin, he just has to do one action to commit your request into the DB.

Hope you like it, much more is to come, be patient. Those tools are already in production, so feel free to use them!

I'd like to thank Martin and Julien for their help. Smart comments&ideas are welcome.

Olivier.

This is fantastic work!

I've marked the topic as sticky, as I think this is something that needs to be publicized widely. Could you also write something for the newsletter please?

Well done.

Thanks Stuart for "stickying" this. I think that, with this tool, there is no more reason for someone to say "I don't understand" or "it's complicated" to add shared models positions in FG. It's so fast and easy now. That's what I wanted to do.

Yes, already done this morning as said Gijs. I just finished the deletion script now, hope to get into production before the end of the month. Who has never seen a shared building in the middle of a river or runway ?

Next is mass import + edition scripts. Then 3D models import. Will keep the community up to date. Thanks for you support.

Who has never seen a shared building in the middle of a river

That's mostly due to a fault in the river, rather than the building placement... So I won't advertise this is a way to remove buildings that are in the water (when they are on a runwy it's a different story of course). ;)

Agreed, but in fact I've seen both. Well, we'll see it in time when I write my ad !

Hello,

I'm just about to try it. Now I got a bit confused which value to insert for elevation and elevation offset? The UFO-export file gives me elevation in meters and in feet. A short description with the desired unit may be helpful.
And I can't find a elevation-offset in the export-file. Where to get this from? My object is above the ground, so if it is necessary there should be one. But I always thought that this is calculated automatically by the database.
That makes me think about, if it could be more comfortable to have a field, where you can enter the whole OBJECT_SHARED text line, instead of filling out each field separately? But it sounds, like this is already planed;-)

In fact you have one, just put your mouse over "Elevation offset", and it will tell you why this field is for.

No, in fact, the elevation offset is only to be used if the object is sunk into the ground. If it relies on the ground, then this offset is null. But no-one else than you can be aware of this, there is no way the database can set it correctly.

Yes, as you have noticed it's in the to-do list. In fact :
- to insert one or two objects, this form is useful (I did 5 easily this morning) ;
- for a lot of insertions (10, 20, 50...) it's true it's easier to put the new lines of the STG file in another script. This is being done right now. I did my first trials tonight, and it's looking good.

Thanks!

Well done.
It looks so self-explanatory to me that I don't read the text above. So I didn't mind to move the mouse over the field-title.
Was a bit late last night

Hi all,

Due to a major update on the database, those tools are currently unavailable.

Will tell you when it's back online.
