Keyboard Mapping

Postby Mossie » Tue Sep 13, 2011 4:01 pm

I see in WIKI that consideration is being given to redefining the keyboard mapping to strengthen and/or set a standard.

Can some one advise when this work is to begin and if I can assist in the mapping exercise, as T4T also needs to have a defined map, and it would make sence to have as much as possible in common.

You could check the mailing list archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flightgear- ... forge.net/

Assuming that you are referring to http://wiki.flightgear.org/Keyboard_fun ... ority_list then the wiki article dates back to almost 4 years ago, it was started by one of the core developers (David Megginson):

http://www.mail-archive.com/flightgear- ... 13286.html
http://www.mail-archive.com/flightgear- ... 13354.html
http://www.mail-archive.com/flightgear- ... 13364.html

Given that keyboard mappings are stored in XML files, there is nothing to stop you from coming up with your own custom set of mappings, that may even be combat-specific ... so I would not worry too much about it, as long as you are making your new mappings available as an option and not enforcing things.

If you are looking for feedback, you better raise this issue on the developers mailing list and start a new thread here in the forum to ask people to contribute their own ideas.

Thanks for that, seems a lot of discussion is going on, and given the combat elements are different, we'll look to establish a specific mapping suitable for the game play and control.
