Introducing the update of the Cessna 337 Skymaster

Postby Nando88 » Mon Jul 11, 2011 8:25 pm

Hello to all

My name is Fernando. Despite i'm joined on forum since some time, i never wrote a post here before. But my works like AG-14 and Cessna 337 Skymaster maybe are known by people who visits ViveFG.org (spanish site). I'm also a developer of the known PZL M-18B Dromader with El Flauta, where my mission was FDM and animations.

Since i made the Cessna 337E Skymaster, i saw that it has a good reception from yourselves, and because it still not finalized yet, i decided to update it. However, i thought that ViveFg and whole FlightGear community deserve something better than i created, then i contacted someone able to make a valuable model, and someone with i worked before; therefore i ask to our friend "El Flauta" to make a new model of the Cessna 337. He accepted despite he is very busy -me too- but with effort, all is get.

So, I present then the new Cessna 337 Skymaster. The plane changes from 337E to 337G model, and they have several significant differences.

Image

Like you can see, the aircraft look was enhanced noticeably, despite having the same old textures (for now)

---

The improvements are:

Totally new 3D model

Totally different door opening

FDM changes (Gravity center, gear behavior, fuselage, etc.)

New engine files (constant speed propeller, etc.)

Animations (More realistic gear and damping, cowl flaps, trim, etc.)

And a lot of things without make yet, like interior.

Really, we didn't improve it. We made it totally again.
I'll show some screenshots to see details.

I hope that model likes you, but is needed to wait some time for download, until the basic interior were made.

Well that's great. The Dromader is a really high quality plane, and fun to fly, so I'm looking forward to this new project also.

Development still in advance.

Here is a screenshot of the modelling of the new instrument panel :)

Well. Finally, the waiting is coming to its end. Despite is an early, incomplete version,
i give yours this download link. It would nice to be more advanced,
but due for current time reasons, that was quite impossible.

In a short time we release a new improved version. This one is just for test purposes... and like a teaser.

I hope you like it.

Took it for a spin, it's shaping up really nice. Maybe a bit overdone on the glass reflection ?

There is an issue with it that I think deserves to be mentioned here as it would render the plane unfunctional on other OS'es besides Windows:
Please be aware that non-Windows systems have case sensitive paths (Abc != abc), so try and keep paths to resources consistent.
You have references to textures/file.png in your .ac file, but the actual files are to be found in Textures/file.png. This actualy makes flightgear crash on Linux.

The other issues with missing objects referenced in the animation file I think are inherent to a preview release, but I'll mention them here for further reference:
Code: Select all
Could not find at least one of the following objects for animation: 'CommToggle'
Could not find at least one of the following objects for animation: 'NavToggle'
Could not find at least one of the following objects for animation: 'CommToggle'
Could not find at least one of the following objects for animation: 'NavToggle'

Keep up the good work!

That is a very strange behavior of the .ac Blender's plugin (in fact, i made my part in Linux). I must fix it all the time :?

I'll work on it. Thanks for the info.

That's because Blender's texture relative path reference is the blend file, and as you know when unpacking textures Blender unpacks them into $blend_file_dir/textures. You could just name the directory textures, as long as there's consistency between paths I for one don't mind seeing different capitalisation in directory names.

It's strange, the folder structure on my computer is right, well named; but it fails when i do the export. Rare. Very rare...
