Screenshot Challenge: Passenger Views

Postby Thorsten » Fri Sep 02, 2011 12:01 pm

And now to something completely different - let's do something really unusual:

The screenshot challenge for next week is 'Passenger Views' - take a shot from a perspective an airliner passenger can see. This may be on an airport getting into the aircraft, it may be looking out from the window during flight, but it may not be an outside view in flight or a view from the pilot's perspective.

A United Express CRJ700 at gate 69 in San Francisco International Airport during the early hours of the day. The jetway is connected and passengers are boarding as the flight crew enters the flight plan into the FMS. The flight attendants would like to remind you, as always, that smoking is prohibited at all times on board the aircraft.

Seems this isn't as interesting as the previous one. I had thought quite the opposite way - I regarded 'forest' as an exotic topic for people obsessed in tinkering with scenery, while I thought with all the virtual airliners and airport designers around, this one would be way more popular.

Care to let me know where I was wrong? I'm not too old to learn...

Perhaps custom interiors are what your talking about? As Merlion have custom interiors, we just don't want to brag. :3

I think it's simply because it's considerably harder to do a passenger's view snapshot that's good.

Few aircraft have this feature in the first place, and the ones that do either have a limited perspective or are just plain badly modeled, from what I've noticed.

...Maybe this is why?

(Note: I'm trying to think of a good idea to try for this challenge; I'll submit when/if I do think of a good idea)
Look for "B-BIRD" "N127KY" or "AVA0004" -that's me.

Despite having over 1700 posts here, I am not even close to being the most skilled guy here... I'm just words and bad drawing, not experience. :P

This smells like a misunderstanding of some kind. I'm not talking specifically about interiors - *any* view a passenger might see is okay. Among other things, that includes:

* scenery looking out of the window
* the aircraft just before embarking
* the airport when disembarking
* the aircraft seen from the terminal (that just *might* work with the few high-detail airports we have)
* the ticket counter (if we have one modelled)
...

So it's not limited to aircraft which do have their cabin modelled.

Oh ok... My apologies then, I did have a misunderstanding in that case.

And the winner is:

Why I like this shot:

It appears fairly natural - the light is as I know aircraft interiors, it doesn't have strong contrasts between highly textured areas and bland spots, but rather the whole scene appears to be of the same quality, the textures look like materials rather than monochromatic surfaces, and some interesting glimpses are visible through windows and cockpit door, but the view doesn't seem to be arranged.
