--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh well, the first model was too pointed, the second had too many vertices's and caused a lot of lag, the third one looked bad and now, I made an ERJ-170 model again... I think A lot of tries is also a lot of modeling practice. :D

The following three screenshots were taken yesterday but are here to show you that the model IS low-poly.

And these are taken today, I finished most of it, cut out the surfaces, gear doors, modeled the gears, the wings, and yea, most of it. I also textured it and created a paint-kit. Oh yea, and blender is awesome for ambient occlusions but I had to add a lot of my own shadings in GIMP like the ones near the control surfaces and the reversers.

I also added a lot of details like the radios, antennae, gear rods etc. :wink:

Very cool to see this aircraft being developed!
What would it take to see ERJ-170 as an AI model? There are quite a few airlines using this model.

I guess you need to make a really low-poly model for that. Mine isn't that low poly, having a lot of those as AI could give you a massive lag.

Other than that, I made a basic JSBSim FDM and tweaked a lot of stuff. The only thing that's not right is the lift coefficients. I also completely animated the plane. That includes the control surfaces (rudder, ailerons, elevators, flaps, spoilers), then the reversers, doors, gear doors, lighting, light-maps, wing flex, contrails, engine fans, tyre spin and what else can you think of? Oh yea and I'm working on those stairs that come down from below the left side doors too. Oh yea, I also created a paintkit for it which you can get here. It consists of the following layers : Background, White Area, UVMap, Ambient Occlusion, Doors and Construction lines.

And here're some screen-shots...

I started workin' on the cockpit, completed the ladder animation, and all other animation, the FDM is still very basic and a lot of tweaking is required. Here's a video showing the current state of the plane.

* actually goes;

early-alpha (if applicable) ---> alpha ---> beta ---> early production ---> development. Some FG aircraft have dates in their devel-status box.

In FlightGear we actually decided (recently) to do it like this: http://wiki.flightgear.org/Formalizing_ ... all_Status

Anyway, no matter how you name it, this will be one nice piece of aircraft!
