Organised aircraft download page

Postby macnab » Fri Aug 19, 2011 9:22 am

I presume this is the place to discuss it.

Is it not possible to group aircraft into sections based on their developement stage. Particularly, a section (or seperate download page) for fully functional aircraft. Arcraft which may or may not be receiving a few tweaks, but otherwise COMPLETED.

I don't expect a moderator, that would be a full-time job, but the designers know when their design is complete and they can upload it to a Completed page, and remove the half-finished one from the half-finished aircraft page.

This might be useful for you - naturally incompleteness tends to score low on the scale...

Seems as though it will be some time before a standard rating systemn is settled on!! At least one can just look in the section above alpha status.

Not really, we already have one (since some months though, so most aircraft are not yet "rated"): http://wiki.flightgear.org/Formalizing_Aircraft_Status
The website needs to be worked on though, so it actually displays those ratings and allows visitors to sort/filter the list.

Good system. But is there a way of reading the rating BEFORE downloading the file?

Some aircraft have a copy of the ratings on their wiki page.
But, like I said, the aircraft-download-page needs to be updated to display these ratings.

Basically getting the rating system in place and getting most of the aircraft rated and then implementing support for this on the download page are all "in the works" and this is all in the very early stages. Hopefully this will be more mature by the next release. That main thing is that the FG developers know this is an issue and it is being worked on and it will get better going forward.
