F-117 Nighthawk (BETA released)

Postby Gijs » Fri Nov 09, 2007 2:53 pm

-SEE THIS POST FOR THE LATEST RELEASE-

Here're some new screens of my 3D model of the F117 Nighthawk aircraft (Wikipedia). I've done some extra work on the cockpit as pauljs75 said. But the aircraft still need some wheels, flaps and rudders etc. I can't programm so if there's anybody out there who can (and likes) please contact me.

Hi Gijs,

That does look better, but a general point when modelling aircraft (as opposed to scenery stuff); feel free to use as many vertices as necessary to make rounded objects look smooth. The F117 is obviously not a terribly rounded aircraft anyway, but the number of polys that are acceptable in an aircraft model is really huge these days...

Cheers,

AJ

Cockpit view (from pilot). I'm still searching for a picture from inside the cockpit with closed canopy. I'm not sure if you really have this less view.

Detlef, you're help is very welcome. I'll send you a pm.
P, thanks for your link. I already found it during my search for pictures.
Jackle, the cockpit doesn't look very difficult, but it will take a lot of time. Lukily I got holiday (2 months) so I have a lot of "hobby-time".
Alex, altough the picture you send me isn't a picture it could be helpfull. The only problem is that it's a image of a 2D panel, which is different from a 3D one ofcourse. I'll search for another picture (in 3D) to see how I should position the camera (I'm quite sure the model is right, so I don't know why I else get this little view to the outside).

Thanks for the pics Jackle!
The first and last (black/white) pictures are of the F-117A. That's the first version. I'm planning to make the newer version, which got screens in the cockpit. Maybey I make the F-117A (prototype) after this one is finished.

Good luck, pictures of the new-cockpit are rarer than gold-dust.

Looks good! Keep going on it!

And yeah, cockpits can be hard to do correctly sometimes. Not that the modeling of them is necessarily hard (at least the 3D bit), but rather pictures are rare, too small, or what examples there are have too much perspective or other distortion to clearly make things out, etc. It's even more fun with some general aviation or experimental aircraft where the avionics layouts are different from plane to plane. (Then you've got to try picking one that fits best with the nature of the aircraft.)

I've spend some time tonight making a little preview for Youtube. The video isn't perfect (I know). It's actually just a test how I could make such a vid. Hopefully my next vid will include a cockpit :)
