TransGear "Horizontal Europe" (TGA #22) - Jun 11th 1500 UTC

Postby Lukosius » Sun May 29, 2011 11:54 am

Hi everyone,

TGA "Horizontal Europe" (TransGear Airways #22) - June 11th 1500 UTC

The 22nd installment of Transgear's monthly event will involve 9 airports spread horizontally across central and western Europe.

The idea behind this particular event is that all aircraft will be travelling in the same direction, and along very similar flight paths. This will create a further challenge for both pilots and ATC's as you will have other aircraft to consider along your flight path.

The two hubs will be Hannover (EDDV) and Berlin Tegel (EDDT). In addition each hub will also be a spoke airport for the other hub, which potentially could create further congestion.

1st Leg
Hannover will be the first hub with flights arriving from the following spokes:

1) Berlin Tegel (EDDT) to Hannover (EDDV) - 132nm
2) Poznan (EPPO) to Hannover (EDDV) - 262nm
3) Warsaw (EPWA) to Hannover (EDDV) - 415nm
4) Brest (UMBB) to Hannover (EDDV) - 523nm

2nd Leg
The 2nd leg will be between the two hubs (EDDV to EDDT) and will cover 132nm.

3rd Leg
Berlin Tegel will be the 2nd hub with flights departing to the following spokes:

1) Berlin Tegel (EDDT) to Hannover (EDDV) - 132nm
2) Berlin Tegel (EDDT) to Enschede Twenthe (EHTW) - 236nm
3) Berlin Tegel (EDDT) to Amsterdam (EHAM) - 314nm
4) Berlin Tegel (EDDT) to RAF Honington (EGXH) - 461nm
5) Berlin Tegel (EDDT) to Birmingham (EGBB) - 554nm

More information will be added very soon.

I might be able to participate from 16:30 UTC (due to work :( ), would that mean I would be able to fly the 2nd or 3rd leg? I would love to participate in a TransGear event that includes EHAM :D

We haven't done the exact times yet, but I would guess you would be able to do legs #2 and #3 which would be EDDV-EDDT-EHAM.

Well in viewtopic.php?f=32&t=10924 they still state that they have funding problems for the server. Because I do not expect that those are solved soon, we at EDDF-ATC events are using MUMBLE on an interims base!!

Because MUMBLE is not able to be integrated into FlightGear as good as FGcom I will return to FGcom as soon as possible - but for the time being it is a good "helper". Have a look at
http://sourceforge.net/projects/mumble/ --> for General
http://mumble.sourceforge.net/Installing_Mumble --> for installing
http://mumble.sourceforge.net/Mumbleguide --> setting up

We use server "tdulive.dyndns.tv" and chanal "FLIGHTGEAR".
Maybe we discuss that a little (again: As interim!! (I hope))

Well, as much as I hate the idea of switching from FGCom, I am guilty of using Skype for VoIP in FG. So, I suppose switching to this Mumble thing shouldn't be too big an issue. At least for now. You think we can all agree to use Mumble, AND have all participants set up to use it in time for this month's event? I'd hate to have to use mp chat. I mean, I know it can be done thanks to ATC-ML, but voice is still easier.

Well - yes - I was thinking like that too - but then i did it myself last weekend in 15Min (after the others at EDDF urged me to do) -- and during the session in EDDF 2 more guys did itinstall during that evening. So I am pretty positive.

Just one thing to consider: Everybody installing it should follow the initial setup-routine adjusting Mic+Speaker.

May be we could even think of giving people a test just 1h before or during the week -- or some who did install and used it place here their experience here.
Of course we have a EDDF-ATC again on Wednesday and Friday and Saturday 17:00 to 21:00 UTC - everybody is welcome to test!

Still no registered routes. Anyone having a problem with the scheduler I need to know about?

Have a look -- there is one entry. Seems to work!

I would like to pose a general question, namely, is that time (Saturday 15 UTC) the most suitable to organize MP events? Has anybody ever considered changing it?
I really would like to participate in these events, but i'm always too busy in the middle of the day - I work at least 6 days in the week. Yes, I surely realize that it is not the middle of the day for those from Asia and America...

We settled on 1500UTC as a best case to allow the largest number of people to participate. Most of the FG users are in North and South America, and Europe. 1500UTC puts the start time early morning on the west coast in the US, and in the mid to late evening out toward eastern europe.

If we push it later, then we exclude a large swath of N and S America because it's simply too early. If we make it earlier, then it gets too late for the people in Europe.

OK, that is quite undestandable for me. And what with sunday? Is it not the day, in which more people have their free time?
