- First, remove all protection against external links. It's annoying, and I think it's the wrong area to protect. We should be focusing more on not allowing spambots to create accounts on the wiki in the first place.
- Second, find a more creative way to stop spambot account creation. ReCaptcha is doing an ok job, but many bots still find their way past. Surely there's something else out there.
Just my $0.02.
Oh, I meant the captchas you have to fill in when the wiki detects added external links in an edit.
+1
Just recently, I have expressed the same concerns ... I also find it very annoying - and would find it very unfortunate if these pseudo-protection measures (that is what they are after all, because no automated piece of software is going to be stopped by this), would annoy even more regular FG users (or possibly future potential wiki contributors).
What I was suggesting is introducing some form of "trusted" group for people that are known not to be spam bots/spammers, i.e. because they participate in some way regularly in the FG community (such as the forum, mailing list etc).
Such people should not be subject to those protection mechanisms.
