I once (some time ago) tried to repaint the 787 to. But I found out that it's the hardest plane to paint in FlightGear.
If I look to your screenies I see that the lighted wing part is missing/translucent. Light.rgb is the texture file of that part of the wing, have you changed that?? I sometimes see that if you change a texture something strange happens in FG. I don't know why, but at least you know where the problem probably is now :)

You are damn right....I turned off lightings from cockpit for my 787 and the transparency went away.....so we have narrowed down that lights.rgb or lights_r.rgb is the problem file........i will find the solution

I tried to do a delta repaint of the 787 but i didn't mess with the light.rgb or light_r.rbg files and this still happens.

I am coming close..I guess now i need to intensity, direction and the gradient of the lights correct......

For those who have been writing to me for these livery, have no worries, once i am done with it i will definitely share

Need help: Anyone knows how to package a livery to reflect the correct name? that is, for MPmap to show it as Singapore Airline or Cathay Pacific rather than ANA??

Stay Tuned,,,,,

I made a howto on the wiki about editing liveries. It includes the name-thing. You find it at: http://wiki.flightgear.org/flightgear_w ... t_a_livery

really cool!

One OT-question:
I realized that the 787 and 777-200 were similar in some ways. is the making of new liveries also identical for both planes?
all the booze is free, airline goin' broke, here come the ladies with another jack'n'coke... :P

Nice liveries :D . actually the 777-200 and the 787 have been mapped quite differently. in the 777 many surfaces map to the same area in the textures. so if you want to change the livery for it. you got to do texture remapping .

salam bhai...

I guess u are right....Even in 787 i guess texure mapping is used.
Since newbe like me knows nothing of texure mapping, i guess i am fighting to tweak a bit to make it more realistic....

Besides, are texure values in those .rc files? Does that mean we can edit using AC3D?

Ok here i am again..with some good news....I guess i was able to tweak by sending another light source in the opposite direction.

Though some lights filter above the wings, but i guess it look better than having a broken wing look as earlier.

Not all perfect but good enough to deliver i guess (Need to modify the body a bit more)
Here are some pictures you can compare during day and night mode

It is here the lights (Above Picx) filter a bit too much to the top, but i guess its OK

So here we are finally....little challenge conqured. If you people are intrested i shall release the very first cathay pacific livery.
If you feel this needs more modifications, i shall stop the release and strive to work on it during spare time (when available)

Your feed back please?
Thank you

Re: Livery For Boeing 787 -- Livery Released !!!

Postby xsaint » Tue Jun 03, 2008 3:31 am

Hi..Thank you for your comments.....

I thought if there is a demand for this current livery, then i take that as an encouragement and will do Cathay Pacific and Delta livery (in that sequence)..If i realise that not many favour 787 Livery, then i guess i can turn my attention to some other model livery. But have no worries, i believe i will be rolling out more liveries soon.......

How i fixed it?
Two things to take note....lights.rgb affects the lightings on the rudder as well as it also reflects lights on the side of the plane from the wings

787.rgb also applies texure to the wing area.

The trick was...i applied a light source from the reverse direction (Look at the SQ logo on the tail....My light source is from left to right direction to compensate exisiting light source). That fixed for me......

Wish you luck...
