FlightGear Video Contest

Postby Torsten » Tue Feb 15, 2011 8:15 pm

Hi,

for the presentation of FlightGear at LinuxTag in Berlin in just a few weeks time, we'd like to run a video showcasing all the bells and whistles of FlightGear in an continous loop. It will be projected to the wall of our booth to attract as many people walking by as possible.
I'd prefer to have a video with short sequences of every aspect of flight over endless shots of airliners from outside cruising at FL340 in blue sky.
Carrier landings, glider towing, local weather, moutain flying, water landing, helicopter operation at Insbruck's great heliport - you name it. Just be sure to show the world the best sides of FlightGear.

The video should be of a duration of five minutes or more, so it takes some time before the sequences repeat. A 720px resolution is a minimum, sound is optional (we will mute the sound anyway). It must be licensed under a free license like GPL, CC or alike.

Please post your videos here not later than April, 24th 2011 12:00 UTC.

We will establish a poll here at the forum to get a ranking for the best videos and we, the booth operators reserve the right to pick the best of the top three videos. The creator of the winning video will receive one of the famous Team-FlightGear t-shirt, a pair of the mega-cool 3D red/cyan glasses and free admission to the LinuxTag 2011.

Now get your screen capture running and start recording!

That's great! I'm going to participate :) However, i think that will be better if are a common standard for all videos, like "720x480 MPG2, 30fps". You will get a more consistent source for edition (at least, an equal screen aspect ratio).

So, does free admission also include the round-trip flight, hotel, etc.?

We have one virtual ticket for a virtual airline of your choice. We probably don't have that many virtual hotels in virtual Berlin, but you might stay (virtually) in the virtual Reichstag ;-)

My movie editing skills are non-existent so far, but I have recorded lot's of 720p HD video of Flightgear and uploaded it to Youtube. If anyone wants to download and use some of it you're more than welcome to. My Youtube channel is here:

Like I say I don't really know how to do editing but anyone entering wants to use some of my footage, go ahead.

No worries, I didn't post them up for you. I posted them on the FlightGear facebook page to help promote FlightGear. Viewing is completely optional.

I'll see about doing a new video, if I can't get to that, would this work?

It's a promo video I made a while back with 2.0 :)

Hi all
I found this video on youtube:

- It shows many of the new features of FG 2.2
- 720px
- and it's 6:08 min long

The author is planetacancun2 so someone must ask him under which license it's published!
I hope that helps! I think it is a truly excellent video:

This one goes into the right direction, but I'd like to see
- more (unusual) camera angles
- slower camera moves
- more features
- more aircraft (we have soooo many excellent aircraft!)

Only one out of seven :(

Please keep going!

I think those are too many requirements, as they could fit in a video!
Maybe a montage from the respective best parts of various videos would be better! (hope this sentence is correct  )

If anyone wants to use any parts from this video I recently took,

I can provide the original .mov file in higher quality. :D
