Ok Statto, that is what I shall do. I have added only one piece of detail and that is t the top of the building where it "juts" out considerably.

First preview, texture is work in progress and is being built layer by layer

Another update, added more layers, created a night texture also, need to tone down the window lights though, think there are a bit too bright even for a night time. Don't know where the white line has appeared from but I hope to get rid of it.

Tested it out in FG and here are a few screenies

I've found a Statue of Liberty model on the net under the CC license. The author states it may be used if a link is given to his website. I have downloaded the model to look at it and it is highly modelled (maybe to detailed) and not to scale. If anyone is interested I will send him an email to see if we can use it. The only other thing is that it isn't textured (and it will be a pain in the ass to do).

In the mean time I will crack on with the Chrysler building

Flatiron is one of my favourite buildings. You've done a lovely job on it.

Very nice that NY is getting some upgrades… :D
The statue of liberty is an important landmark that deserves a model. Would be nice to see it in Flightgear. The flatiron looks great.

I#m going to restart the texture on the Chrysler building as I missed something out. I will also do Essex House and the Woolworth building if no one is doing them???

Nope, I've got the buildings around Madison Square Garden (Penn Plaza) kicking around my hard drive and penta has the Time Warner Center.

Thanks for your work on these buildings!

Cheers

Wow! Great to see some good collaborative work on New York! I hope that San Francisco/ the Bay Area will get some work like this one day! (The terrain there is so horribly inaccurate that it is literally impossible for me to accurately place models of my favorite places.) If SF sees some more work, I'd be more than happy to re-model the Golden Gate completely from scratch. :)

It sounds as if you are using the UFO to place models. All you need is the latitude and longitude of the axes of the model, which is incredibly easy to find using the usgs seamless map (or even Yahoo! Maps) - you just click on the point and you get the latitude, longitude, and elevation - convert to meters and decimal degrees and you are golden!

Well, I meant as even if I do place the buildings exactly as they are in real life, they are either above or under ground, partially inside a hill, etc. The Marin area is the worst if all.(I can say this with confidence because I live there and see the hills and the Golden Gate every day.)

On another note: Is it possible to edit the terrain for fg on Mac? Is there a program for this or do I have to run commands in terminal?
