Does anyone know if there is a way to incorporate Gifs into FG scenery?

Cheers,
Vic

Why not PNGs. They tend to be smaller, can have more colours (I think) and doesn't have those pesky patents.

Do you mean as a landcover texture?

GIFs are no longer patent-encumbered, but they are an outdated, obsolete format. Please use PNGs for all submissions to the scenery.

Hi Guys,

I already use .png files, but what I was asking for is a simple method of making things like animated signs.

I know we can use textransfer across textures, but I was looking to make that simpler, and with very rapid changes which is not that easy to do otherwise.

I have the software to make my own Gifs (FREE).

Cheers,
Vic

Ah! The years pass by quick. I didn't think of how long time ago they were patented... :)

There is no way to animate a gif in FG.

Thanks Fred.

It was just an idea for an animated sign. I know there is another way to do it, but being able to use a gif would have given greater scope.

Cheers,
Vic

FWIW, the PNG equivalent of animated GIFs is actually MNG: http://www.libmng.com/pub/mng/

Thanks for the info H.

I use GIFfun (FREE) to make my GIFs. I am not clever enough to build the necessary stuff to make MNGs, so I will wait until they make an actual application with a full set of instructions, then download that to try.

Cheers,
Vic
