Thanks for developing this addon! I was dreaming about something like that for a long time...

I've just tried S&R mission, and it really adds some fun to FG!

Check the Life Flight checkbox and input the lat and lon of the nearest hospital or the one you want to transport to into the lat lon input fields.

Maybe addon could select some nearest helipad, and require to land (very) near it? Is it possible to query FG database? I mean, we do see helipads on the map...

Button for "Current coordinates" would help too, to require to get back to the starting position, wherever you loaded your FG.

Also, it would be actually possible to get coordinates (and names) of REAL hospitals from OpenStreetMap, the problem would be just to not overload Overpass-Turbo server, to query whole world in the small parts somehow:

EDIT: to -> too

Thanks for the response. I've been taking a little break from development as off late. There is so much that could be done to improve upon this addon. Maybe eventually we can grow it into something to talk about.
I like your suggestions though and will consider them next time I put some work into it.

Yeah.. and the problem is that you can get "overheated" easily, with all the possibilities and, maybe, complexities.

I did try to research on how FG add-ones are done, how could I improve some features, but I just got overwhelmed and so "ejected" (and I am C++ developer who has to deal with some s*** at work, :| but FG felt too much for me).

What you did is great start in right direction, so I wish you best to keep motivated!

For those of you not aware of this other Mission generator type addon

https://forum.flightgear.org/viewtopic.php?f=89&t=40197

Eventually I plan to adopt parts of this and add it to this addon. The part I plan to adopt is the method D-ECHO uses to place random FG source objects to be rescued. Such as cars near roads as life flights missions for accidents, etc.

I also will likely tie a link to this other addon as well so you can use it as it was written and intended to be used. He did a really good job figuring out how to randomly place these objects. The ambiance of his addon is exceptional.

I found a major bug in the generator that broke Encroachment mode and maybe other aspects. But I think there is an additional "unknown" issue that may have to do with core changes to FG. Certain windows are no longer popping up that should be. It's going to take awhile to track this down.

EDIT:

Well, maybe not. It may be aircraft specific issues conflicting with the generator. It's going to take some time to track this down.

I did push the bug fix for the encroachment mode.

OK, fixed the encroachment mode bug. I have been adding more user choice feedback to popups and inadvertently broke a loop by doing so. Anyway, I am pretty sure it is fixed now. All changes pushed to addons.

I added the HEMSGen populate scene logic to the Mission Generator. D-ECHO was genius in the way he coded the logic for inserting objects. It will be really easy to expand on and add new mission concepts. I'm going to have to change the UI eventually to accommodate all the user options I want to add. As of now the Search and Rescue missions include the following S&R mission types.

Boating incident - SHIP IN DISTRESS
Drowning incident - PERSON IN WATER
Traffic incident - TRAFFIC ACCIDENT
Train incident - TRAIN ACCIDENT
Emergency Medical incident - ACS ACUTE CORONARY SYNDROME
Emergency Medical incident - STROKE - TIA
Emergency Medical incident - TRAUMA - EXTREMITIES
Accident incident - TRAUMA - EXTREMITIES
Hiking incident - RESCUE - ASSISTANCE

You can perform the mission at night for added difficulty. The AirCrane has a decent spotlight for night missions.

Some future mission ideas.
Law Enforcement incident - POLICE CHASE
Law Enforcement incident - SEARCH FOR SUSPECT
Law Enforcement incident - DRUG SMUGGLING INTERDICTION
Law Enforcement incident - DRUG ERADICATION

There is much room for improvement in setting some of these scenes. Because of the outstanding job D-ECHO did in setting up the logic for setting the scene it should be easy to add to existing scenes and give them even better visualization.

Eventually I will get around to documenting how to use all the features even though it is pretty intuitive. I think maybe a tutorial for each mission type would be all that is needed.

As of now, there are three main mission types.

Intercept
Choose from MP or AI Aircraft. Aircraft selected "On demand" by the user or in "Encroachment Mode" where an alarm goes off when an aircraft comes within range, defined by the user.

Search and Rescue
Immediate mission on demand or on a timer.
You can choose to have optional smoke at the incident site.
You can have a navigator vectoring you to the incident site.
You can have the optional "Life Flight" activated where the mission isn't finished until the victim is transported to the hospital of your choosing.

Wildfire Ignition
Immediate mission on demand or on a timer.
Use with the Wildfire addon and any fire fighting capable aircraft.
Or include the Cargo Towing addon and use the bambi bucket on any helicopter.

Lots of fun!

A couple S&R missions. This first one is a Traffic Accident.

This next one is longer. I cycle the Addon on and off until I get the type of mission I want. Looks like there is a bug where subsequent missions don't generate the opening mission identification prompt. Cycling the addon off then on and changing the range seemed to fix it. Or it was just a coincident and it is maybe a type of mission missing some header information. I finally settle on a Drowning Incident. It takes a long time to find the body. I noticed that the smoke is not working on this mission. I know why, I forgot to add the option to several of the s&r mission types. That will make it much easier to find one body in a vast ocean. I added the smoke option to the rest of the incident types.
