Submit your screenshot for the SOTM of september 2023

Postby lomar » Mon Sep 04, 2023 11:44 pm

Hello everyone!
Now's your chance to submit your candidate for september's FlightGear SOTM contest!

Participation Rules
1. 20 entries (because a poll can only have 20 options).
2. Only one entry per person to give everyone a fair chance of submitting a screenshot.
3. You may enter one extra for somebody else. This person of course can submit their own candidate.
4. If you submit a screenshot of another person, please make sure he/she grants you the right to publish it under the correct license.
5. Please convert your picture from PNG into JPEG (plenty of converters online).
6. Must be taken with FlightGear.
7. Every picture should have a caption. It would be useful to add the name of the aircraft and the location, where the screenshot was taken, to the caption. (For example: "Greeting the dawn - C172P, Keflavik".) Otherwise, please, mention it at least in your entry.
8. Screenshots must not be post-processed except from cropping and/or resizing (but you may use the in-sim filters). You may also add titles mentioning an author of the screenshot and/or aircraft/location displayed on it.
9. You may change your entry as often as you want, until the voting starts.
10. You agree to license your screenshot under the CC-BY-SA 4.0 license for publication by the FlightGear project.
11. You agree that the screenshot may be used to promote the FlightGear project, including publication on the flightsim.com forum with proper attribution according to the CC-BY-SA 4.0 license.
12. Screenshots containing ANY experimental features still not present in the stable version of FG should state in its caption which features are being used.

Here is a Wiki article with some advice on making nice screenshots: http://wiki.flightgear.org/Howto:Make_nice_screenshots .

Voting will start when 20 entries are reached or at the latest on september 21th, in a separate topic.

A little late but if we consider that there was only one screenshot so far...

SP-NTX, Why do you upscale that screenshot in the "high resolution" version? It doesn't make sense to upscale it just to have a higher resolution!

No problem. I was waiting for more entries to see if we could have a proper poll this month.

I may be too late but here is a current KLAX shot at sunrise (HDR) using the neo for some reason the textures are just plain metallic with no livery.

The PA-18 capture is not HDR. But you gave me incentive to try to get that shot in HDR. Unfortunately, I don't think you can currently get the glass frost or fog in HDR.

I think now SOTM is senseless with HDR and at the same time it is not

guess the reason... you shouldn't use HDR with any complex aircraft which wasn't modified for it

you shouldn't use HDR with any complex aircraft which wasn't modified for it

I was noticing many issues that will eventually need to be addressed when developing aircraft for HDR. Even most of the existing textures will need to be updated to fully take advantage of HDR. The scene was so clear and sharp It was strange to notice that even the photo scenery looked like textures I was trying to use in game building I was doing back in the 80's. Scenes where the textures had that real static looking feel or vibe. It's hard to describe unless you've been there.

I'm not sure if it I need a current pull and rebuild of everything or what. But I have an issue where after start up I have this weird, extremely low res blocky black graphics blocking the hires scene for either a set time (loading?). Or until I manipulate the view position enough that it fixes itself. Has anyone noticed this? I can post a video of it if needed. It's hard to describe. And the way it clears up is bizarre.

THis should probably be moved to the HDR thread.
