Ah, that's interesting. I always thought PNG had the best compression.

best in terms of quality (it's lossless) but not in terms of size

Yup! :)

Thank you! By the way, have you managed to witness such a phenomenon with ALS?

How do I add mine?
Flying is so magical, just hearing the hum of the engines as I plow through the blue yonder...

Convert to JPEG (PhotoShop, GIMP, online converter), upload (imgur.com, imgbb.com) and insert into your post with an image tag:

Iceland cross country in the Cessna 172p

I was setting myself up to ungraciously dismantle this perfectly good little airplane and then off in the distance I heard a voice.
And I think it was that of my flight instructor saying: "You can always go around"

Was testing my Cessna 210 in northern Norway and by chance saw this very rare natural phenomenon. Hat off for creating such a bombastic, beautiful, fantastic, … flight simulator. I don't think you would ever see such a thing in X-Plane or MSFS. I'm simply overwhelmed and fascinated. Thank you very much.

ALS and Advanced Weather   See Thorsten's thread where he came up with this: viewtopic.php?f=47&t=28189

I updated the wiki page under notable optical effects, as TheEagle's screenshot reminded me : https://wiki.flightgear.org/Howto:Make_nice_screenshots

There a lot more - 22 degree halo, sun dogs, and a parahelic circle IIRC

The trick is to use the temperature offset in to simulate winter - and pressing the "Apply" button creates a new set of values for all the properties of the simulation that are not exposed by the GUI, so you will get different layers of hazes with different particles etc. The temperature offset is in the advanced settings dialog - if it's not used the weather is warm - selecting the old winter textures in LTS doesn't help, and having historical snow deposits by manually tweaking the snowline doesn't fix the main issue.

Live data might have cold temperatures. They are visible only if you end up flying a lot a part of the world that is cold , at the right time of year for that hemisphere - which, along with the temperature offset GUI thing, is why they aren't found and posted more often . TheEagle might have been the first to post sun pillar in several years(?)

See (also lots of other info on that page) : https://wiki.flightgear.org/Weather#Quirks_.26_caveats

Kind regards

No problem at all! Good luck with your tests!
Get my custom FG liveries here: https://flightgearhusky.altervista.org/

I'm off at college so I've stopped making liveries (for the time being, at least), but I'm continuing to ensure compatibility for the ones I've already published.
