Space Shuttle - Display adjustments (PFD, DPS, HUD,...)

Postby GinGin » Mon May 11, 2020 2:10 pm

Hello,

I created that topic to avoid putting too much pictures in dev topic about pfd.
A sum up of my last week work about slight pfd adjustments.
Datas come from Dps Dictionnary 6-18 and SCOM 2-7

Available soon on the dev branch
https://sourceforge.net/u/gingin/fgspaceshuttledev/ci/development/tree/

The more I dig in the code, the more I am fascined by the work made behind the screen.
A huge sandbox where we can just reorganise elements for a better fidelity, but everything is already there.

Let's start with MM 101
ADI is driven by nav software 4 mn before launch

Image

SRB ignition , MM 102

Image

SRB sep, MM 103
Beta and Vrel pointer vanished above 200 kfeet

Image

In case of TAL declared, MM 103 T
Now, distance to TAL runway and bearing is displayed , some infos are removed

Image

ET sep, MM 104
Some new layout

Image

PFD MM105 through 303 is normally just displaying the ADI ball
But I kept some relevants informations for On orbit better management ( rendez vous etc)

Image

Orbit Pfd ( only available in OPS 2 and OPS 3 until mm304)

Image

Entry mode now, mm 304 or mm 602
New layout for Pitch and Roll/yaw Auto or CSS and speebrake shown now below MM on the right ( to come a yellow rectangle when switched to Man or CSS above mach 1)
Also HAC bearing and runway distance only displayed, with vertical acceleration

Image

TAEM interface ( mm 305 or 603)

Hac H pointer for WP1 entry HAC and C for HAC center
Both distance to runway and to hac center displayed
Glideslope only and no vert accel anymore

Image

Entering the HAC
DAz is replaced byt HTA ( Hac turn angle) . It displays remaining degrees in HAC before runway alignement

Image

Once in final in Approach mode ( A/L), the only things remaining are Runway Bearing and distance to runway

Image

Below Mach 0.9, Speed tape switches to EAS ( with still mach ladder behind) and Speed box switches to Mach
Yellow Altimeter tape below 2000 feet ( either AGL or Baro depending if Radar altimeters are available or not)

Image

If RTLS declared, MM 601
Vrel pointer and Beta display appeared again
Pre PPA Inertial Speed is displayed
Post PPA Relative Speed is displayed and Bearing to runway with Earth relative tail pointer

MM 601 Pre PPA

Image

MM 601 Post PPA

Thanks Lego :)

And added Yellow boxes when in Manual mode for Pitch or Roll/Yaw above Mach 1 ( always for Speebrake in manual)

Hi Gingin,
I was trying to test your fork, but with 2020.2.* a lot of errors pops out and it crashes on some oms_hardware thing. A lot of warnings pops out as well.
Dunno if you have done your testing under 2018.* or 2020.*, or if this is just me!?

Thanks!

2018.3
I was getting 2020 to check

Thats weird though.
I didnt change sensible stuff , just basic things

Edit: I am testing my rep, there is something weird indeed.
I must have mixed something

I will look at it

Edit 2 :

EatDirt: I pushed the Correct pfd.SVG
I think there was a discrepancy there, Not sure it was what you observed

In 2018.3, it works nicely

Arf, my mistake, I was confused by a commit dated from the 7th of May 2020 and I've tested the "master" branch instead of the devel one.

Then, I don't know if you have made it on purpose, you have a commit about fixing order in SPEC51 display which is on the master branch and not devel!

So far so good, the devel branch works fine, I'll test it for a while then!
Great job!
Cheers,
Chris.

Very nice improvements, I like the bluish screen color and the white ADI ball. Got a few issues though with a fast test run:

Fonts are too large for APU and HYD, or the green line is too large (dunno how it was in reality)

Image

The numbers unfortunately disappear on the white side of the ADI ball, I remember yours to be grey, but mine remain so white that they are unreadable:

Image

The AOA at qbarmax was perfect (-5 ish degrees), but my insertion to Hubble orbit was never on the curve, see ascent traj2 display on the right, which also seems to be very high on the display?

I have one for Wayne?: The third button of the BOILER N2 SUPPLY (far right of the picture) has become yellow, but only when engaged!? That is super nice, but I don't think it should :)

Image

This one too, it is half yellow?

Cheers,
Chris.

@EatDirt:

For APU/HYd, it is normal
That was a very rough edit to check something.
I didnt start the work on it .

For ADI, I have some black tiny labels behind the White letters like in my screens, weird you dont have those
If you want to change the color, it is in p_pfd.nas line 207
Set color fill ( rgb)

Code: Select all

   # ADI sphere grid

   p_pfd.adi_sphere_bg = device.ADI.createChild("path")
        .setStrokeLineWidth(1)
   .setColorFill(0.88,0.88,0.88)
   .setTranslation (255, 175)
        .setColor(1,1,1);

And what mission file did you use ?
I saw you have a very weird figure for stage 2 and a MECO time at 8mn50 when it should be around 8mn30 now

If you use a custom mission file, be sure to copy ascent stage 1 and 2 from the standard columbia.xml to yours to have a correct mm 102/103 display

Indeed for the qmax .
I works well with Scom datas

At Max Q, around -4 and 720 psf, which is around 3000 Qalpha for a max of 5000 at mach 1.2 ( figures in scom part 9 performance are quite interesting, and really applicable in FG)
So even a bit of margin

Very nice stuff for the yellow MPS Wayne :)
Indeed Chris, it must be a glitch

For Hubble mission, I used the Hubble mission file "hst.xml" and that's all. I do that also for ISS, I am using the mission file iss.txt. Maybe they need love as well?

I do not have these indeed, it is 2020.2.0 with last snapshot from your repo.

I didnt updated that one yet, so ascent 1/2 custom shape is missing in .xml ( you can copy paste it from another mission file though)
I will "hardcode" it anyway in vertical_traj.nas

MECO time is due to 100 % thrust , so coherent.

I updated the hst.xml ( I put a 35 ° Orbit first for better orbit insertion, I put the LAN value for 30° also at the top of the hst.xml)
PEG 4 should work also, play a bit on Theta angle with LEO tool

Anyway, I updated the hst.xml on the dev fork ( I got 0.1° max RINC at MECO)
For the PEG 4 OMS 2 ( 10 mn earlier than previous scenario), I adjusted Theta, but I advise you to play with it in LEO tools for a good convergence

If not, PEG 7 at Apogee does a great job

I resolved the problem with missing Greek letters for SSU font.
I should be able to fine tune it on pfd and OMS/APU displays
It is like playing LEGO , quite fun :)

Thanks for HST, I am gonna try this!

For the purpose of the sim, could we keep the HST orbital elements matching the real ones?

For the purpose of configuring whatever you like as orbital target, there's a config file in which you enter whatever you like :D
