You need to specify the location of the downloaded file there:

Also, you need to uninstall the stable release.

That last landing showed a bit of soot on the fuselage, did it get a little hot on reentry?

Your pics absolutely amaze me every time I see them!

Guidance might command Bank Angle up to 180° to catch the require drag

Your picture with 90 degrees is amazing!!!

Is this a typo? Is there really a mode in which you can enter head down??? Theoretically that sounds feasible, the AOA would still be there!!

I believe so, yes, there's nothing wrong with inverted entry to capture the required drag, it just feels spooky if you're in the seat.

Indeed, part of some TAL tests.
Up to the limits

Is there really a mode in which you can enter head down?

Several things can lead to that.
Pre-Bank procedures for a problem after a Deorbit Burn (engine failure) or a shallow AOA (well detailled in the Handbook)
Manually Pre-Bank the Orbiter at a value depending of the delta Perigee "missed"

Image

I set up a high energy scenario to test that.
Pre-bank during open looped ( until drag reaches 3 ft/s² ish)

Image

Then Auto Roll again. As I waited quite a long time to go back to Auto, Orbiter was diving like hell in the atmosphere ( a kind of TAL with huge initial drag)
Guidance then commanded a higher than 90° bank (104°) to fight against the phugoid following the first TAL pullout.

So yes, guidance might command higher than 90° bank in some marginal cases, though the bank commanded is filtered before to be sent to the AP to avoid bank transient.

Back into Entry / TAEM scenarios before starting with new Ascent guidance tests.

Another successful test with the new ascent code based on Power Explicit Guidance algorithm
A quite powerful tool for ascent and aborts (TAL and ATO for now).

Wait - am I reading correctly ? There is no heat shield on the upper side of the fuselage I though ! That thing should burn down in a second !

if you come in head down with the nose pointed down, instead of up as in a head up entry, the belly would still protect the craft until such time as it could adjust its orientation in the heavier atmosphere after the plasma phase has ended...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

Ah ok, I got this wrong then - I though the Shuttle would have it's nose still upwards, but with a 180 roll attitude !
