Wow! 10 days out of FG and I am back with a brand new forum structure for space flight, beautiful! Congrats to all!!

Cheers,
Chris.

A few snapshots from 4k of elevation, not sure to come back in one piece from that one, V_HP > Mach 31 ;)

This <orbital-targets>
<section-defined type="bool">true</section-defined>

<object-label type="string">ISS</object-label>
<inclination-deg type="double">51.64</inclination-deg>
<alt-km type="double">410.0</alt-km>
<node-lon-deg type="double">7.72</node-lon-deg>
<anomaly-deg type="double">1.0</anomaly-deg>
</orbital-targets>
should match the current orbit of the ISS.

Basically no, because our inertial coordinate reference is a bit peculiar, because it's a perfectly circular orbit with zero eccentricity and because it really moves in J3 gravity to which we can only do an approximation.

Is it not somewhat closer than the present definition in the mission.xml file, especially in terms of inclination? :?

First post updated for EatDirt and Thorsten last adventure

Nice Lego, we can use that at our own convenience in mission file :)
It is closer, but will be soon outdated by nodal precession and variations.

For a full rendez vous scenario, it will be cool data :)

Quick sum up of my last rendez vous attempt ( it is getting closer and closer) :)
Scenario ISS,
--aircraft=SpaceShuttle-ISS
--lat=0.0 --lon=5.07 --heading=44.66

ISS at 330 km and anomaly 2 in mission file, LAN and inc unchanged

After some phasing, estimation on when we will reach 60 kfeet before ISS ( here at 10h40 m)

Image

Lambert targeted burn to affinate our position at 10h40mn, it will be our Ti point ( terminal initiationà, either we go for the rendez vous then or we phase again to delay the final rendez vous phase)

Image

Then a burn at our apogee to raise the perigee from 40 kft below ISS up to 10 kft at our next estimated perigee ( quite hard to see with J3 perturbations, I am using item 12 Vz speed to estimate maxima and minima of the orbit)

Image

After some try and error, I tried to approach ISS by above to change.

Image

After the last burn, Rendez vous at 12:05 at our next perigee if everything goes well

Image

Image

ISS in sight :)
Proximity operations then, quite hard. Couldn't docked but it was fun

Still no luck with X BPV, it does not like me :)

Beautiful Gingin!

I am looking forward to try, but I still have to learn the basics of RDV, I mean with spacecrafts... 8)

Can you test whether this gradually drifts out of alignment with Earth's rotation speed?

I will test that more thoroughly.

Coming in close, following some Nasa Rendez vous style

Final phasing burn, rendez vous in two orbit :)

@Thorsten: I had a weird " bug"

Image

After the last burn, Apogee where I was moved from 250000 feet to 150000 feet on X axis
Do you know from what it might come ?

Says 150000 meters, not feet - so I suspect there's some unit conversion problem at play.

Mm yes indeed.
Then I switch unit from metric to imperial
It was well shift from 150 kft and in spec 34 also.
magic teleportation :)
