Ace40 has sent you a message about your 3D model Boeing 747-100 NASA Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA).

IceMan2, I would like you to give me an honest answer. Did you really get William Thompson's permission?

His response seems awfully familiar with the response Liam received for his 767 model: http://flightgear.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=28970#p28970

I'm not inferring that you didn't receive his permission, but if you really didn't, you and the FlightGear project could get into some serious copyright issues with Mr. Thompson. If you haven't asked him, that doesn't mean that you can't proceed. If you inquire about using his model, I'm sure he will accept like he did for Liam. But copying and pasting another response doesn't mean that you received his permission. ;)

If you did receive his real permission, my mistake.

Still, I doubt that you would receive the exact same response as Liam with the same punctuation, etc. If you didn't receive permission, it would be much easier to ask and, most likely, receive an acceptance a few hours later, rather than get into a potential lawsuit.

Unfortunately I can't help you out there. I don't use SketchUp anymore (no time), and I don't have a copy of the Pro version anymore so I don't have the means to export it.

Sorry,

I think you should leave that poor guy alone Lol. All i wanted was permission to use 1 model  I didnt expect others to email him asking him to practically work for us! ha

Guys,

Two comments with my Moderator hat on.

Firstly, please do not include email addresses in forum posts, as they are liable to get harvested by spam bots. This is particularly important for other people's addresses.

Secondly, if you're asking for permission to use someone elses model, and intend to include it in the core FG CVS, or the World Scenery DB, you need to get them to explicitly release the model under the Gnu GPL v2. it is not sufficiently simply to ask them if you can include it in FlightGear. I would suggest including the email trail that explicitly includes this permission within the aircraft files themselves.

I know this sounds very pernickity, but it is highly important for the future of FG that we don't end up with licensing issues and lawsuits because someone mis-understood what they were releasing.

Ha ha- funny! what's your intention for that? It just increases the polys, which affects the perfomance in AI and changes the form of the model as well negative!
"Set Smooth" is just right!

Just create a low-quality AI version of this aircraft. 8)

But only when you decrease polys. Subsurf increases polys!

There is a 747-100 for FlightGear right? if so we probably use its FDM and use weights/ballasts to account for the shuttle, and maybe add lift/drag from the shuttle.

The Nasa 747 has not the modern cockpit from the 747-400. The cockpit and systems from the 747-200 would make it more realistic!
