Believe it or not, but I just did some work on the shuttle yesterday! :)
I can launch it now (vertical). Tough it uses some (actually a lot of) balast to stand right up. I read about a way to position a rocket steady on the ground, but I haven't seen any example or manual on that (yet). I'll have to ask Jon about it.

Also the model needs more attention. There is no gear and all moving parts have to be cut out (ailerons, rudder etc.). The doors don't fit when they're closed, so I have to take a closer look at that aswell.

Oh, and the earth looks still terrible from space :(

Hey has the Nasa space centre in Florida been modelled? Then it could be a space simulator  Although I wouldnt find anything fun in going upward to be honest... it would be a tad repetetive :P

perhaps if there are people willing to extend on this, we might even let Flightgear become a little like a StarWars sim... where you can dogfight with X-wings lol... XD

Starwars does not exist. The space shuttle does.
I'm actually more interested in seeing how far we can go with JSBSim and what is possible in FlightGear. The space shuttle landings are easiest to simulate in FlightGear, and that's what I'm aiming for. Tough, you need to get up before you can get down ;)

No. Unless you know something about JSBSim rockets :)

I just noticed this post. Very nice. As I mentioned, I have created an SRB engine model. Working on it this morning, actually. I believe we can get at least first stage going. This is something I'd like to pursue. There's got to be a launch complex model out there somewhere. What formats can FlightGear read in?

Can you have a menu option for having powered flight without the boosters and tank? Id like to fly the shuttle from airport to airport maybe.

I know, but it still would be fun to fly a shuttle around under powered flight like a plane on its own.
