I have to say, I'm very pleased with the touch the floating folder adds to the feeling of immersion...

that (the new flame shader work) is so cool!
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

I've spent some time trying to improve the entry heating model, and I suppose I've finally managed to come up with something viable. It's an annoyingly hard problem with constraints that don't seem to fit together very well...

Anyway, the thermally safe corridor is not (a lot?) smaller than before, so watch your de-orbit burns such that the entry angle doesn't get too steep. The most critical I could think of was a TAL MECO target, but the one I tried was still on the safe side.

I sure wish I had a computer capable of the outstanding graphics I am seeing.

@Thorsten
I finaly have been able to make the "Air Data Probe". The AirDataProbe.blend, .ac and .png (below) is zipped in my onedrive here, the object mesh is named AirDataProbe as well. I don't have an xml file with it and I've forgotten what I need to do to put it on the shuttle myself to update the files. It's amazing how much one can forget if you don't stay active with it :|

Thanks - looks good! I suspect I'll put this on hold for a bit though - I'm currently flight-testing and hoping to tag the milestone for the next release, and at this point I'm mostly concerned with finding and eliminating bugs.

After the milestone is tagged, we can then keep adding.

Not knowing the status of the Canvas ADI ball: I just stumbled upon this article which might be of use:

If you look at the real thing, it projects positions but not textures. If you render a sphere (regardless of whether it's an actual mesh or a function like in the linked article), you see distortions of e.g. text labels at the edges because you see them under a shallow angle.

The Shuttle ADI does the projection math for the position of the label center point, but then draws the text unprojected at that point. Same with lines, there's no change of line thickness done, only the position of the line center is projected.

That's a fairly unusual problem in rendering today (though I believe that was how 3d rendering was done in the 80s). I know how to do it in principle (or at least I think...), but it's not high on the priority list.

Ok, I didn't know the exact details but found the link and thought if it helps, great. If not, too bad.
So, too bad.
