Tonight, an ascent with failure scenarios set to hard. I got quite a situation. At first I thought it was a bug, but looking at the code no, this might really happen:

data path failure to central engine combined with cutoff button failure to central engine

(with some more usual PASS failure and helium leaks).

You know it is very bad close to MECO, desperately trying the bloody cutoff button, and then you understand you're going to have a very large apogee: 999 as our display now saturates there :)
Any idea of what to do in that situation? Maybe steering along Y to burn the remaining fuel without getting into crazy orbits?

Cheers,
Chris.

If the engine cutoff button isn't working, you need to cut the power (two switches on the right console) to the engine controller if I remember correctly. Might wreck the engine, but better than being lost in space...

Ahh, very good! I'll check that. The engine is also wrecked is you don't cut it hard as it goes to fuel exhaustion anyway!

Thanks!

I think if you close the associated helium pneumatic valves, it will shutdown the engine .

Some shots on the route to the Hubble retrieval mission, testing the devel branch:

You'll forgive me for the original payload grabbing style, but that's quite convenient if alone flying the Shuttle :)

Mission accomplished, one less junk in space, a lot of interesting work to do on the HST space ageing :)

I'll try to do the mission in a row and make a time-lapse, but I need a free week-end for that :)

PS: Gingin, the re-entry works like a charm!

I've just spotted a bug with FG 2020.0.4, we get a serious wind kick during TAEM with live weather enable, I don't think we had that before on 2018. It is like the aloft winds are enable by default and crazy at the top of the atmosphere.

cheers,
chris.

Yes, there was a corresponding FGData change a while ago, I'd suggest to post this issue on the corresponding forum thread … **goes off to find it**

@EatDirt: Very nice.
Glad you like the entry thing.
That is so nice to be able to do some complete mission, still motivating to push the sim forward.
No idea for the live weather, I did not use it.
TAEM code is quite resilient for wind shift normally.

How was the HAC transition logic ?
Did You play with Spec 54?

It was less smooth than in my previous tests, but, this time, I had real navigation and 10knots wind at KTTS! The transition was clearly visible, but nothing bad. I would say we're good! The proof is that I landed by night and the guidance led me in front of the runway :)

I did not play with SPEC54 yet, but I will soon!!!
