Postby fdmarco3 » Sat Jul 03, 2021 7:00 pm

Hello, i have a problem with ATC-pie connecting to FlightGear network. I cannot get metar information and in terminal i have the following:
Could not obtain declination from NOAA website.
and then:
Could not download METAR for station LIBP

This happens even if a connect to a different airport.
I am using atc pie in a mac .
Thank you.

can you reach the noaa.gov web site via traceroute or a web browser? if not, the problem is external to FG...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

Hi Marco,

can you copy past any eventual error messages you had in ATC-pie console ?

Surely the best point of start.

I can reach noaa.gov website via browser. When i launch ATC-pie.py via terminal i get the following:

Code: Select all
PocketShpinx or PyAudio not found; voice instruction recognition disabled in solo sessions.
Loading aircraft & airline data...
Reading world navigation & routing data...
No world AD position data provided (CONFIG/nav/AD-positions); falling back on old data.
No navaid data provided (CONFIG/nav/navaid.dat); falling back on old data.
No fix/RNAV data provided (CONFIG/nav/fix.dat); falling back on old data.
No airway data provided (CONFIG/nav/awy.dat); falling back on old data.
Starting up...
Setting up window 1187-0 in AD mode at location LIBP...
No airport data file provided for LIBP (CONFIG/ad/LIBP.dat); falling back on old data.
No elevation map found; using field elevation.
Radar position is: 42°25'57.78''N 14°11'20.27''E
Could not obtain declination from NOAA website.

and after i connect to flightgear in atc.-pie i get:

Code: Select all
.Could not download METAR for station LIBP

Hello fdmarco3,

thank you for the console capture.

There is a working solution ...

Although, in order to let you know, I have tried to reproduce the same error with versions with no success.

tried :

- 1.7.1
- 1.8.1
- 1.8.2

+ dev versions:
- 003296
- b8b329
- 44cb7c

+ With each I tried :
- several ICAO places
- several users ( registered and not registered )
- Ascertained the URL in line 39 (~ish) of the file ext/noaa.py contain the correct URL
- - for the METAR :
METAR_base_location = 'http://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov/data/observations/metar/stations'
- - for the declinaison :
decl_base_location = 'http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/geomag-web/calculators/calculateDeclination'

I at each try, had a working METAR.

This is somewhat a good news, we can reach the same for you :-)

That said.
I have noticed theses lines in your console dump : - PocketShpinx or PyAudio not found; ...

To be honest with you,
experience on Mac + python led my to disappointments where solving a problem was leading to a new emerging one.

I do believe a Mac only solution should exist but there is actually a very elegant shortcut, crazy simple and powerful :

We already have done it 5x times.
- Installed effortlessly Virtualbox for Mac (there is an official free).
- Downloaded a virt appliance with ATC-pie on Xubuntu already configured and ready to use (and good looking).

Cost time :
Virtualbox < 15 minutes
Virt Image < 20 minutes (with a not too shabby internet connection)
Configure < 10 minutes
et voilà

compared with the time and disappointment trying to solve each python problems on mac ...

let me know

Kind Regards
LoCall

Hello and thank you. I have found a solution by myself. The following command worked:

Code: Select all
sudo /Applications/Python\ 3.9/Install\ Certificates.command ; exit; --pip install --upgrade certifi

It seems a python urllib problem on mac.

Thank you all!
